QUOTEFILE!!! - Shepherd - 04-10-2024 An interesting bit of conversation from the most recent chapter of "Locked in Digital" (My Hero Academia; quirkless Izuku goes to UA after being trapped inside a digital world and forced to beat multiple survival games): Quote:Jeanist had presented the intern with one of his custom ‘Jeanist Jackets’- knife resistant, with pads and linings that would stop a bullet from punching through- and tuned so that Jeanist himself could take command of the fabric and threads in an instant with his quirk- drawing the subject back or using the material for capturing downed villains. The back was even marked with the Agency’s logo and ‘Intern’, for easy identification and self promotion.https://archiveofourown.org/works/17292761/chapters/139713691 RE: Thread of Awesome: THIS! QUOTEFILE!!! - classicdrogn - 01-10-2025 I'm pretty sure that was supposed to mean "treat the fay like a jaded retail worker treats the public" mot "treat the fey like you're talking to a retail worker" as actually written... because being Super-Karen to the fey is an obvious-lose-lose times infinity plus one strategy , if nothing else, and directly counter to to basically all of dogbercarroll's Xander-insert character traits in general regardless of which story you're talking about. RE: Thread of Awesome: THIS! IS!! QUOTEFILE!!! - Shepherd - 01-10-2025 No, I'm pretty sure he really is saying to treat them like retail workers, and the logic is sound, if callous. Don't make eye contact, because that is engaging with the retail worker, which encourages them to try to sell you stuff. Don't give them your full name, because that is engaging with them, which encourages them to try to sell you stuff. Don't accept anything they offer, because they'll use that acceptance to try selling you stuff. Never agree or disagree with what they say, because that is engaging with them, which encourages them to try to sell you stuff. Never apologize or thank them, because that is engaging with them, which encourages them to try to sell you stuff. When dealing with a retail worker or telemarketer, you either ask a specific question in search of a specific answer, or you say "not interested" and walk away/hang up the phone, because the moment you start engaging them in conversation, it is their job to try selling you stuff. RE: Thread of Awesome: THIS! IS!! QUOTEFILE!!! - classicdrogn - 01-11-2025 The bit about not being able to read signs in any human language argues against, Shepard - only customers are stupid enough to ask "Where can I find the peanut butter?" wile standing under an aisle listing that says peanut butter is in that aisle, or "Can I still order off the breakfast menu?" while looking at a menu that says breakfast items are offered from 7-10 AM at half past twelve. Or, as I had to deal with just the other day, respond to a sales ad that clearly reads 'Limit 4' by bringing a full dozen of the item in question to the register and get pouty that they can't get them all at the sale price.. (I'll give them a pass on the ones that are 'Buy x, get y free, but you *must* buy x+y in the same transaction to get this price, otherwise you get <other price>', because they usually put the qualifier in little tiny print). Grocery worker, BTW. :-) RE: Thread of Awesome: THIS! IS!! QUOTEFILE!!! - aku - 01-13-2025 Ok, lets put https://old.reddit.com/r/TalesFromRetail/ here and then go back to awesome quotes ?
