I think that the comment about Shinji's sword being completely unmagical and ordinary, but still cutting things really, really well, is a reference to "Guards, Guards" by Terry Pratchett. I think it's how Carrot Ironfoundersson's sword is described.

I am honestly curious as to where ND is going with regards to Yui. We've been seeing a lot more of her negative sides in recent chapters and a lot of her authority/superiority has been suspected, challenged or outright subverted.

I rather love the use of the Cherubim's catch phrase there, even if it's slightly done wrong due to a missing word in the middle. The use of the first line there got a wonderful "Oh...fuck." reaction out of me.

And finally, a moment of Cosmic Justice (spoiler-colored juuuust in case):
Misato Katsuragi finally gets to take on an Angel. Not by directing Children against it, not by proxy or at one remove, but as close-up and hands-on as it's possible for a human being to get (ie, piloting an EVA). And It. Is. Awesome. I could easily forgive this series for all its multitudinous sins for this one scene alone, if I hadn't already.
New NERV motto: Misato Katsuragi has Kicked Angel Ass, and all is Right With The World.
