- robkelk - 05-27-2014 If you're doing the tourist thing in Toronto and you happen to be near the Royal Ontario Museum or Queen's Park around lunchtime, might I recommend this inexpensive restaurant a few blocks away? -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. Adversaries remain citizens of the same state, common subjects of the same sovereign, servants of the same law." - Michael Ignatieff, addressing Stanford University in 2012 - Black Aeronaut - 05-27-2014 An okonomiyaki restaurant in Toronto? Color me delighted! That city has just earned yet another reason for me to visit. - Bob Schroeck - 05-27-2014 Oh, cool. We're already planning on a couple days in downtown Toronto, so having another place to eat besides Happy Seven and the Marche Movenpick is a definite plus! Thanks! -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Mark Skarr - 05-27-2014 After having looked at a map to see the area, I noticed something I'd never paid attention to, which led to the epiphany: "Man, how backward has Detroit become that if you go south you wind up in Canada?" - robkelk - 05-28-2014 Mark Skarr Wrote:After having looked at a map to see the area, I noticed something I'd never paid attention to, which led to the epiphany:"... I can afford a week off in September (I'll use the "spare" days for something); can you tell me which week? -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. We have a Friday-to-Friday week at the resort. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - robkelk - 06-28-2014 Thanks. Can't get the 12th off, but no issue getting the 13th-19th. They open at 11:30 weekdays, 12:00 Saturdays - they're closed Sundays. And now for something to do in Toronto: Can you convince your group to wander away from downtown and visit the Ontario Science Centre? There's a special exhibit on until October: The Science of Rock 'N' Roll -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. As for the get-together with everyone, we were talking about it earlier this week while laying out some basic planning. The idea that seems to be forming is an afternoon-evening get-together, but which day is not yet nailed down. As options shake out I'll post more here. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - robkelk - 07-11-2014 Sounds good. I can leave Ottawa just after breakfast and make it to Toronto for lunch time (and Toronto to Collingwood should take two hours), so "afternoon-evening" works best for me. Speaking of driving: The 407 is the most expensive toll road in North America, according to a news report I heard a couple of weeks ago. The 401, which roughly parallels the 407, is a freeway. -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. I picked up a big stack of old "sampler" CDs for you, Bob - if we're lucky, there might even be something worth listening to on one or two of them. -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. I can absorb the price of a coffee. I also mentioned this project to a friend of mine who has connections in the local music scene. I'm not keeping track of what's he's paying for and what's getting for free, but I can say that (with the promo discs) you're going to have enough music to listen for months. But that's just me. - robkelk - 08-02-2014 It might come down to that. Ever hear of a band called Furnaceface? My friend got almost every CD they've ever released, straight from the band, most for free. (He also scored a couple of tapes and a 7" single, but I'll keep those.) At this rate, I might end up mailing some of these to you, Bob. -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. What style/genre(s) do they do?
