Around here, "1 inch" barely qualifies for sending out the the snow plows...

Around here, people freak at a single snow flake. But this is Alabama. There are no snow plows. No gravel. No salt.

Feh. Around here an inch is "almost not worth shovelling or plowing" snow. It's certainly not enough to merit me breaking out anything more than the push shovel.

It's the temperature that gets me. Right now my desktop weather gadget is saying it's -7F here where my job is. The entire wing of the building is cold, and I've got a space heater running in my cube.

Have I mentioned how much I loathe winter?

Federal capital, here - we have to keep the ceremonial routes clear.

Bob Schroeck Wrote:It's the temperature that gets me.
Agreed. We've had more than 45 days in a row where it's cold enough to keep water frozen deep enough to skate on - I know this because 45 days is the record for how long the Rideau Canal has been open to skate on, and today we tie that record. The current forecast indicates we'll have at least four more days of cold-enough - new record, but brrrr...

It could be worse.  My old home town of Halifax had a day last week where it was just warm enough to rain, but not enough to melt the 30 cm thick ice covering the storm drains. And then the next day the temperature dropped again.  I'll stick with the consistent freezing temperatures and relative lack of precipitation in Montreal thanks.

Glad to see I'm not the only one facing Montreal's weather here. And yes, melting then freezing is a pain to live with. We had some earlier this winter and there was ice everywhere for the next week and a half.

At least two regular posters in Montreal, at least two more in Ottawa ... Bob, the next time you come north of the border on vacation, make it at Mont-Tremblant and we can all get together!

Winter storm warning for northern Alabama. Looking at sleet then snow. 2-5 inches of snow. Our office is shut down tomorrow, possibly Thursday. Depends on whether ice stays on the ground or not. What is surprising is that state employees are expected to go to work when the feds are taking the day off because of the hazardous road conditions. With the state budget looking like a 700 million dollar shortfall, could the governor be planning to eliminate a few jobs? First responders have to be out, but the public defenders office?

In the summer only.
It'll be a couple years at the earliest, though -- our timeshare is already spoken for until at least then.

Aside from that incident, it hasn't been too bad this year.  The temperatures I can deal with, its the wind that's the worst part.

Truly a horrible time of year, but we'll take what we can get.

Getting some snow up here in the mountains of New Mexico. But it's not too bad. Only 4-5 inches. And this is a Ski-Resort town. They know what to do with snow here. Plus the mountains and pine forests cut WAY down on any wind usually.

Unfortunately, not for where I am at. It's kinda weird...snow falling 10 miles north of me and freezing rain where I am at.

Having these knee sprains has been a mixed blessing, it seems. Sure it sucks having limited or no mobility for a couple months. But it's the winter months. I've had good reason to stay indoors and ignore the cold.
That said, snowblowers just cleared the latest snow-dump we've been having the last few days. Granted a snowblower-cleared walkway is somewhat artificially inflated, but some of the snowbanks on either side of the walks reach up to my waist.

White stuff has fallen when I wasn't looking. If it doesn't melt by morning, looks like I'm housebound. I live on top of a hill. I'm pretty sure I can get down..going back up is another matter.

You know what? You guys all need to figure out how to Winter down here in San Antonio. While I know some of you would despise our Summers, I know you would absolutely adore our Winters. Best part? If you can stick around until the official start of spring, you'll catch the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo (http://www.sarodeo.com/), and (maybe if you're lucky) the Bluebonnets coming out.

Oh, and if you can even stick around through April? Hold on to your pants, pardner, cause it's Fiesta time. http://www.fiesta-sa.org/ And yes, it is honestly to God that big of a deal.

Same thing all over again...got power but no water...I'll have to break out the emergency water supply if the water doesn't come on by tomorrow.

50 degrees F and blue skies in New Jersey -- maybe Thursday was winter's last gasp? We still have some cold weather in the forecast, but no snow so far...

Meanwhile here in NJ, it's getting close to 70F, and we're supposed to have a thunderstorm. Spring, I love you now that you're finally here!

Bluebonnets are out in force this season. All that nasty wet weather we got may not have been the sort we're used to, but it did the job. If you happen to be passing through, stop and smell the flowers. Also, highs in the 80's just recently... followed shortly by today's weather of sunny skies, cooler temps (somewhere in the 60s? I didn't check) and the typical Texas breeze! Talk about a brisk day! I didn't even notice I was getting sunburned!

- robkelk - 03-27-2015

We can tell who have already taken their winter tires off their cars - they're the ones in the ditches in this morning's snowstorm.

BA, want to trade weather?
