- robkelk - 12-14-2009 Quote:Unseleigh (sp?)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classifica ... lie_courts]Unseelie -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. Adversaries remain citizens of the same state, common subjects of the same sovereign, servants of the same law." - Michael Ignatieff, addressing Stanford University in 2012 - Bob Schroeck - 12-14-2009 It's an accepted alternate spelling. After all, it's coming from Gaelic and probably can be spelled a half dozen other ways. If you can get your hands on the OVAs -- our local Blockbuster used to carry them until they did away with their dedicated anime section -- you should watch them. There's surprisingly much wold background in them, in drips and drabs. You know, I bet they're on YouTube somewhere. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Black Aeronaut - 12-15-2009 At any rate I was just using them as an example. If anything, the baddies that seek to subvert the governments could be left overs from the original conflict in the Sakura Taisen anime - after all, they've shown an ability to influence minds and possess people. - Necratoid - 12-15-2009 If your going to use the faeries of folklore from the British Isles... the route to take is from WWI not WWII. Remember that WWII is a direct consequence of the end WWI... as are many, many of the border conflicts of the last century. WWI left arbitrary and unliked, nonsense borders all over the place. Mostly carving up other people's territories. Specifically the insanity of that Treaty of Versailles... I mean the war was one of European Empire smacking each other around... not really a reason for America to bother getting involved with that insanity. Then the British cut the German transatlantic cable... so only British news got to America. British sources made out the Germans as 'insert generic horrible thing here' all the way to 'insert thing that disturbs that of Lovecraftian mythos here'. So the British hosed anti-Germans propaganda across the ocean until they talked the Americans into running huge amounts of supplies to the British. Which lead to a certain ship with both passengers and military supplies getting sunk. Which lead to Americans getting enraged over the sinking of said unarmed passenger liner and getting involved in that mess. Once the Germans got swarmed and lost, the treaty of the big 3 France, England, and America against Germany was made. The French went psycho bureaucratic plague on them. The treaty removed most of their industry and then saddled them with a debt so improbably large... that they actually had to stall the proceeding to argue out what you called a thousand million. The need to define a number that huge never really came up before. Much of that bill was questionable... a lot of barns that fell over 10 years before the war were reported destroyed by the Germans. Therefore added to the bill so large they needed to literally find a new word big enough to describe the debt. Going from this number that never needed a term before to her is your 6.6 billion dollar bill. Oh... and Germany must take full responsibility for the war. All Germany's fault. The French are totally innocent of wrong doing... What?... Oh, and so are the British and the rest of those involved. They didn't do it either. Anyway, the Germans really did try to pay said impossible bill... but with no real industry it just failed to be able to handle said uberbill from hell. Hitler mainly got to power by stoking the fires of hate of that obscenity of an international creative writing assignment. Hitler's main official grudge against the Jews was apparently because they were responsible for that treaty. All they have to do is cause the crazy rabidness in the French then rabble rouse the Germany national socialist party. That and maybe get a changeling in as Hitler's personal physician. If you don't get that comment... try watching the History Channel documentary called 'High Hitler'. - Black Aeronaut - 12-15-2009 This is going to take some time, research and sme serious plotting to figure out. WWI and II were a mess, politically speaking, and rewriting that nastiness to fit into an altered worldview and still be believable is going to take something that'll make Harry Turtledove sit up and take notice. Oh, and on a side note, I found Zeke. |
