Basilisk Venom and Fiendfyre spells are both capable of ruining inanimate objects beyond the ability of magic to fix. C4 may be able to reduce an object to
rubble, but a simple reparo spell could likely put it back together again. OTOH, killing a living body places it beyond the ability of magic to fix.
A minor quibble about the end of book 7 of the Potter series is that Neville used the Sword of Gryffindor to kill Nagini instead of using a blasting or cutting
spell. While this gave Neville his own personal moment of win and awesome and made a nice consolation prize for later missing out on the kill for Bellatrix to
a middleaged housewife, it leaves behind the possibly false expectation that Nagini couldn't be killed except by some sort of superweapon. If you accept
that premise to be true, then it is entirely possible that Harry spend the entire series immune to over 90% of the danger to which he'd been exposed, which
really lessens his accomplishments.

I can honestly say that I saw the outline for the story back in April. It ended the same way back then, so no breakdowns on Baja B's part. It was planned
from the start. Personally, I thought it was a good take on the noble sacrifice genre - kind of an I AM SPARTACUS thing.
