Surprisingly enough, asking for a more authoritarian state will not actually get you any more justice.  The reason these people are not investigated is precisely because we've become authoritarian, not because the state doesn't have enough power to round them up.

There is plenty of accountability, if you're outside the U.S.  It looks like Peter Mandelson, who was until a few months ago Britain's ambassador to the US, is the subject of a police investigation and will likely be facing charges.  It remains to be seen if it will bring down the Prime Minister as well.
