- Kurisu - 06-08-2010 Dammit! Now I have 'Culture Club' stuck in my head..... THANKS.... _____ DEATH is Certain. The hour, Uncertain... - Bob Schroeck - 06-08-2010 ... No. Just... no. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Sweno - 06-08-2010 I am highly amused by the unicorn, but have no idea how it relates to the sponsor/candy -Terry ----- "so listen up boy, or pornography starring your mother will be the second worst thing to happen to you today" TF2: Spy - Ankhani - 06-08-2010 I think it looks more like a goat than a horse, to be honest. Amusing. --- The Master said: "It is all in vain! I have never yet seen a man who can perceive his own faults and bring the charge home against himself." >Analects: Book V, Chaper XXVI - Epsilon - 06-11-2010 --------------- Epsilon - Foxboy - 06-13-2010 Banjos + Journey = AWESOME ''We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.'' -- James Nicoll - Kurisu - 06-13-2010 ... _____ DEATH is Certain. The hour, Uncertain... - Foxboy - 06-13-2010 Pretty sweet Organ playing ''We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.'' -- James Nicoll - HoagieOfDoom - 06-13-2010 They had one of those organs at a local second hand shop a year or so ago, with a $50 price tag. I really wish I had picked it up now, no matter the condition it was in. (Notwithstanding that, at the time, I hadn't the space for it). And wow, that guy's got chops. Something Positive and Hopeful - Bob Schroeck - 06-15-2010 I found this thanks to TV Tropes -- as an example in "Writer Revolt". I'm not a big country fan, despite my fondness for bluegrass covers of rock and metal, so I've never actually heard of this artist before. But I think I like her attitude. BTW, if you go to the YouTube page for this video, read the story behind the song in the description. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Foxboy - 06-16-2010 Here's an audio only discussion of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band from NPR's "Fresh Air" on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the album. The commentator assembled some of his favorite covers of the songs. Enjoy. ''We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.'' -- James Nicoll - Bob Schroeck - 06-16-2010 I was hoping Big Daddy's "Sgt. Pepper's" would get a mention, and I'm glad it did; it's been a favorite of mine for many many years. However, the commentator wasn't exactly right about about what Big Daddy's gimmick was. It wasn't recording a modern song in the style of a particular doo-wop era artist -- it was recording it in the style of a particular song. For instance, version of "When I'm Sixty-Four" was done in the style of Dominoes' "Sixty Minute Man". It's a pity they broke up and aren't recording any more -- and that their albums are so hard to find. (I'm particularly fond of their version of "Money for Nothing" -- done in the style of "Sixteen Tons" as recorded by Tennessee Ernie Ford.) -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Foxboy - 06-16-2010 The band broke up because their front man passed on. The rest of the band went on to do a Chant-based parody album from the "Saint Benzedrine Monks." What makes it doubly hard to find their stuff, besides being out of print, is that a Jazz group has laid claim to the name in the interim. ETA: Okay here's a guy who may or may not have the albums available: Linkie-do ''We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.'' -- James Nicoll - Bob Schroeck - 06-16-2010 Oh, you mean Chantmania by The Benzedrine Monks of Santo Domonica (or something like that). I have that -- I didn't realize it was the same guys (mostly). Oh and yeah, I ran into that Jazz band already. A bit annoying, that. Quote:ETA: Okay here's a guy who may or may not have the albums available:You might also want to try the Princeton Record Exchange -- they're a great place for finding odd, unusual and/or hard-to-find CDs and Vinyl. I try to stop in to their store every time we go to Princeton. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - robkelk - 06-22-2010 These songs sound somewhat familiar... Act #1 Act #2 -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. Adversaries remain citizens of the same state, common subjects of the same sovereign, servants of the same law." - Michael Ignatieff, addressing Stanford University in 2012 - Bob Schroeck - 06-22-2010 Pity that the lead's not that strong a singer. And that the sound is so muddy. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - robkelk - 06-26-2010 New thread here; I think we can lock this one... -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them.
