It was not a technique she would have expected from someone so gregarious.

But then, he was almost always smiling a professional’s smile rather than his own.

Time and time again, Barry Allen has proven that he is not above keeping secrets if he believes that it's the best for everyone. Barry still sees the Team as children because they are Wally's friends, and Wally's technically still a kid in his mind (since he vanished four years ago). Jay is going to agree because he's got that big sense of duty thing going on. He knows about the Choas Lord just like Barry does, and the phantom zone and the speedforce are two different things. It's one thing for a Speedster to get mixed up with the speedforce, but the last thing they want is non-speedsters getting mixed up in it because there's a very good chance they won't make it. So they are keeping secrets with the best intentions, but we'll see how long it lasts.
In the comics speedsters get stuck in the SpeedForce a lot, so it's no big deal, but they don't understand that yet. They also don't know about the multiverse yet, so they have no way of knowing what the speedforce connects them with. That's why they know so little about what happened to Wally.
