this first one, the left side was (according to what I read) taken at 9am, the right side was at 11am of the same day.

Norgarth, can you tell me where that aurora occurred? Also, was any explanation offered for what produced the strange shape of that purple-and-pink cloud? And is that an iceberg offshore in the second photo?

I'm afraid I have no idea where the Aurora pic was taken, nor do I know why the cloud was shaped like that (though I've seen pics of some very strange cloud formations, that one's almost normal by comparison) Most of the pics I post are just reposts that I thought were cool and wanted to share, but they sometimes sit on my computer for weeks before I get around to posting them. 8(

but as Rob said, yes that was an iceberg in the second pic

It appears to be a "Morning Glory cloud". (It might have been an Arcus cloud, but you can clearly see that the cloud is cylindrical, not the front edge of a larger formation.)
