I'd second Azunth's depends in general. For myself, it is a firm yes. For example, this chapter sees the long expected insert of Kaoru and Kenshin into the story. The part of myself which has raised some of the concerns that others have seen was worried about this. Given that they seem like they could be a) Aang's parents, and b) still alive, I am amused by this implementation rather than troubled.
That said, I have closely read and re-read the story from the beginning. I also have enough historical and other background that the relevant explanations were known to me. If anyone ever had a 'huh' reaction to a historical factoid in the author's notes instead of a 'well, duh, who doesn't know about that', I can't imagine that they could have learned and changed their reading habits enough to make reading Embers bear any different fruit. If that fruit was distasteful to them...
I'm starting to wonder if Vathara's Aang's gonna save everyone comment really means that Aang is going to save /everyone/. By this second standard, no, everyone does not understand everyone.
I'm just glad Vathara decided not to include the Flower Wars in her personal canon.
