Paranormal Activity - Epsilon - 10-17-2009

It's been compared to The Blair Witch Project but I don't think its quite the same beast. Unlike Blair Witch
the movie doesn't rely on a "twist" to make it more entertaining. They pretty much spell out the plot in the first ten minutes, and the whole
thing relies on steadily increasing suspense to hold you.

Unfortuneatly it has the same problem that Blair Witch and Cloverfield did.
Namely anyone who is dedicated to filming events like this nonstop comes across as an asshole and, thus, we don't really sympathize with the protagonists.
Which is too bad, since the story relies on you giving a shit about the poor couple. That said, the final thirty minutes is quite well done.

Maybe not worth seeing in the theatres, but once it comes out on DVD rent it and watch it with the lights out.

SPOILER WARNING!!!! - SkyeFire - 10-17-2009

Haven't seen it myself, but a comment by one reviewer stuck with me, that connects to what you mention. As close as I can recall it was something like
(text whited out): "The true horror element in this film
isn't the unseen supernatural being(s), but rather the callous disregard with which (male character) puts his fiancee into greater and greater amounts of
danger so satisfy his whim, and how she meekly lets him keep doing it."
