Microsoft Gets Cryptome.org shut down - Bob Schroeck - 02-28-2010 Microsoft used the DCMA to shut down Cryptome after a company document detailing what information it can provide on its products' users to government agencies seeking to investigate and/or spy on them was posted on the site. Wired article here. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Black Aeronaut - 02-28-2010 Blarg... Think they can recover from this? - Bob Schroeck - 02-28-2010 Probably. I'm almost more interested in seeing if Microsoft now attacks Wired, given that Wired is now hosting the disputed document. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Foxboy - 02-28-2010 Cryptome is back up, I think spotted a link at the end of the article. The shutdown was the ISP covering its ass. ''We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.'' -- James Nicoll - Sweno - 03-01-2010 From what I have read, Microsoft sent the DMCA asking for the document to be removed. I don't think that their lawyers would be stupid enough to think they could shut down the entire site. So an ISP overreacting is something I'll believe. -Terry ----- "so listen up boy, or pornography starring your mother will be the second worst thing to happen to you today" TF2: Spy |
