Microsoft Gets Cryptome.org shut down - Bob Schroeck - 02-28-2010

Microsoft used the DCMA to shut down Cryptome after a company document detailing what information it can provide on its products' users to government agencies seeking to investigate and/or spy on them was posted on the site.  Wired article here.

Blarg... Think they can recover from this?

- Bob Schroeck - 02-28-2010

Probably. I'm almost more interested in seeing if Microsoft now attacks Wired, given that Wired is now hosting the disputed document.

Cryptome is back up, I think spotted a link at the end of the article. The shutdown was the ISP covering its ass.

From what I have read, Microsoft sent the DMCA asking for the document to be removed. I don't think that their lawyers would be stupid enough to think they could shut down the entire site.

So an ISP overreacting is something I'll believe.
