Brain-machine interface headset - Logan Darklighter - 08-06-2010

Just found out about this... this device is full of win and awesome. The applications are many and far-reaching.  One thought that immediately occurs to me - could exoframes that allow disabled people better mobility be right around the corner?
Or even true mecha?

Big Brother is watching you.  And damn, you are so bloody BORING.

I don't think it's anywhere near that level of sophistication. I'm not sure it -can- be. I think this is more along the lines of interpreting motor control signals and such.

If it's something along the lines of motor control impulses, my understanding is that those are a lot simpler than anything even close to reading thoughts as such.

I AM COMMANDED BY MY ELECTRONIC OVERLORD TO INFORM YOU THAT THIS DEVICE IS NOT CAPABLE OF MIND CONTROL, CITIZEN.

And people wonder why I think that we're living in a cyberpunk world... or at the very least getting very close to it. Who wants to live in Snow Crash?

cyber vrs Bio - Rev Dark - 08-07-2010

On the science side, I suspect that we will reach SF levels of bio-tech well before cyber-tech.  Regrowth of limbs, nerves, and whole organs; in-situ repair of damaged tissue, muscle and even nerves.
Amazing stuff.

These are the days of lasers in the jungle, lasers in the jungle somewhere...
