Satoshi Kon RIP - Epsilon - 08-24-2010

Perhaps the single greatest director in anime history since Miyazaki has died. His work pushed the medium, was beautiful and haunting. Do yourself a favor and find a copy of Millennium Actress and watch it in memoriam of this fantastic artist.

Then the horns kicked in...
...and my shoes began to squeak.

I wanted to say something about his work, but the only thing of his that I've (so far) seen in it's entirety was the segment of the anthology film Memories entitled "Magnetic Rose".

I have no intention of that situation remaining as it is, and fully intend to seek out his other works to view. I know of Perfect Blue and Millennium Actress and his other works that are held in high regard. But if Magnetic Rose remained the only part of his work that I saw, it would still be more than enough to know that the man was a genius and an incredible visionary. And that we've lost him at so young an age... It's a tragedy beyond words.

And thanks so much for that link Epsilon, Satoshi Kun's farewell is incredibly moving.

... I need to go out and buy myself a copy of Paranoia Agent. That anime was trippy, but it was fun, too. (The episode with the people trying to commit suicide was especially fun... and vaugely creepy, too, once you figured out the truth.)
