RIP Captain Beefheart - Bob Schroeck - 12-23-2010

I just found out... Don "Captain Beefheart" Van Vliet passed away last Friday.

Well I don't think we can blame this one on the Death Note Dude.

I don't think I've heard or seen any of his work before (till now - youtube clip on the page), but I've definably heard the bands that claimed him for being an influence on them and some of them don't grab me. In-fact some of them have songs that can almost get me to run screaming from the location they're being played in (yes there are songs out there that affect me like this, the worst one is one someone insists on inflicting upon the public at majorish international/national events and no it is not either of the anthems*).

I wonder if he's related to Burt 'SkyKnight' Van Vliet.

*The known Australian anthems are "Aussie! Aussie! Oi! Oi!", "Advance Australia Fair", "Waltzing Matilda" and when they want to be really ironic "God Save the Queen/King!"
