Ebony the Black Dragon http://ebony14.livejournal.com "Good night, and may the Good Lord take a Viking to you." - ECSNorway - 09-13-2011 Congrats. You have the second most important thing required to get an entry-level tech support position. -- Sucrose Octanitrate. Proof positive that with sufficient motivation, you can make anything explode. - Wiregeek - 09-13-2011 what's the first? "No can brain today. Want cheezeburger." A pulse! *rimshot* I'll be here all week... /did 3 years of tech support //homicide > suicide "No can brain today. Want cheezeburger." From NGE: Nobody Dies, by Gregg Landsman http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5579457/1/NGE_Nobody_Dies - CattyNebulart - 09-14-2011 I'm fairly sure a pulse is not required. I suspect that IBM tech support has largely been replaced by watson. Getting the job later that was harder. - ECSNorway - 09-14-2011 It's not so much an "Are you an expert" certification so much as it is a "have you a clue" cert. The way you guys are going on about it, it sounds like even _I_ can do it. _____ DEATH is Certain. The hour, Uncertain... - Ebony - 09-14-2011 The test used to be much harder, because of the diversity of technology standards involved in computer hardware. With the focus these days on certain types of hardware, it's become easier. In addition, CompTIA (the certifying company) changed the exam structure so that A+ certification would be in line with certain DoD and U.S. Armed Forces specifications, so that there was equivalency between the two. I really didn't need to take the exam, since I've been in the industry as a Help Desk/Desktop Support Tech for more than six years. But some jobs ask that applicants be officially A+ Certified, and since I'm looking for a new job in a different part of Texas, and several of the postings have asked that applicants have the certification, I felt it was necessary. Kurisu, I can't say that there are any free tests floating around; I got all of mine through the prep materials that I acquired. You might try www.transcender.com, which is where I got my practice exams. They may have a demo exam that you can look over. Adversaries remain citizens of the same state, common subjects of the same sovereign, servants of the same law." - Michael Ignatieff, addressing Stanford University in 2012 - Ebony - 09-14-2011 robkelk Wrote:Would you happen to know how (if at all) an A+ certification compares to an ITIL Service Offerings and Agreements certification?I do not. CompTIA probably can tell you, though. That sounds like a question that they have been asked before. I went to their website, but they don't say anywhere obvious.
