RIP: Sally Ride - ECSNorway - 07-24-2012 Sally Ride, first American woman in space, succumbed to pancreatic cancer. She will be missed. http://www.washingtonpost...23/gJQAas574W_story.html -- Sucrose Octanitrate. Proof positive that with sufficient motivation, you can make anything explode. - SkyeFire - 07-26-2012 It's one of those strange coincidences -- I was taking the KSC Launch Control Center Tour on Monday, and they have a wall of mission plaques there for every manned mission launched from KSC over the years. And the tour guide went out of his way to point out Ms Ride's. It was a couple hours later, as I drove back to the hotel, that NPR informed mee of her passing. It's a bit eerie, realizing that she died roughly around the time I was going shutterbug on that wall of plaques. And I'm not even sure I got hers -- I was busy getting close-ups of the Challenger and Columbia's final missions. - DHBirr - 07-26-2012 What came to my mind when I saw this news was the acknowledgment in the comic strip B.C. back when she made her flight: the Fat Broad and the Cute Chick coming out of their cave in the dead of night to call out to the sky, "Ride, Sally Ride! Ride!" ----- Big Brother is watching you. And damn, you are so bloody BORING. |
