Once again, I'm searching for a new host for yggdrasil.org - jpub - 10-04-2012 So, DirectNIC has decided that the advertising revenue they were getting from the banners wasn't enough, and now want me to pay for my site hosting. I don't mind the $13/year, but it irks me to the extent I'm seriously considering leaving and taking my domain with me. I see that GoDaddy still offers a free hosting package with a domain. Anyone have good/bad things to say? Anyone know of a better alternative? - Sweno - 10-04-2012 personally I got really frustrated with godaddy years ago. they upsell HARD when you visit their site or sign in to do anything (or at least they did, I have never been back to see if they have changed). But if your money is worth more than your time, they can be the cheapest guys on the block. $13/year is about as cheap as i've heard (but then again, I have no clue what that includes). what do you need feature-wise? -Terry ----- "so listen up boy, or pornography starring your mother will be the second worst thing to happen to you today" TF2: Spy - jpub - 10-04-2012 Eh. Plain hosting, 2GB/year is plenty. I'm almost unnoticeable traffic as it's all text files. The entire site is like 10M. Yeah, part of the reason I was considering them was the ability to save money on my year-to-year hosting. - Sweno - 10-05-2012 For that little throughput/hosting, I have no clue what would be best. Sorry. Everything I have experience with is massive overkill for those needs. -Terry ----- "so listen up boy, or pornography starring your mother will be the second worst thing to happen to you today" TF2: Spy - Labster - 10-05-2012 You could try playing around with Google Sites, and see if you like it. The free version offers 100MB of storage, which sounds like more than enough. The main issue is that you would have to use their templates for HTML pages, though text files can just be uploaded. -- ∇×V |
