Help looking for a book - Stephen Mann - 07-05-2014
I'm trying to find/remember a sci-fi book I read years ago. The main characters were employees of a cargo submarine company and the plot involved the invention of a device that put a vehicle out of the normal time-space matrix. I believe they call this "ghost mode". Putting this in a submarine, they used it as an FTL work-around and spent time exploring (and escaping an increasing oppressive world government). One problem with space travel was that once past a certain distance from Earth, the travelers were subject to an insidious mental assault that was most effective against people with weaker minds or dependent personalities.
There are more details, but those are some of the high points. I've Googled without success, I've searched my shelves ..... and I just can't remember the name or the author.
