I am currently in Montreal, which is on average ten degrees Celsius colder than Chicago. Most of the expected temperature next week there aren't even below zero.

That's not very cold.

Windchill, dude. Chicago ain't the Windy City for nothing.

- Seraviel - 02-07-2015

I'll grant that they expect three times the wind that Montreal gets. Not much snow, though.

Rob, I came from Southern California. When it gets to 65 degrees, we break out the sweaters.I ended up buying the appropriate kit. Least I'm prepared.

Heh.  Around here, come October, you can always tell which Rutgers freshmen come from the southwest or Southern California -- they're the ones in down parkas while everyone else is still in T-shirts.

What can you say? You live in a semi desert area bordered by the ocean..which equals to 300 plus days of sunshine and 70 plus temperatures. The only similar region on earth is the Cote d' Azur area of France. Also known as the French Riviera.

You forgot something.[Image: texas.jpg]

Except that we frequently get blasted with fronts from the north full of cold, dry air, so that means we get a lot more rainfall.  However, long-term droughts are definitely a thing here, too.  And I'd definitely say that Padre Island is as pleasant a place as Coronado.

- ordnance11 - 02-09-2015

But, how balmy is the weather year round? I remember freezing in San Antonio when I would through boot at Lackland. Dry cold rather than wet cold, but still cold. And an island compared to So Cal....?

Let me put it this way. Your summer wardrobe? It never gets put away. Because the bitter cold only lasts for very short periods. Your time in Air Force Boot was a fluke. Real Texas Winter can be brutal, at times, but more often than not you can count on drop-dead gorgeous sunny days with highs in the upper sixties in the following week.

As for Padre Island... You do realize that it is the longest barrier island in the world, right? It's a little over 100 miles long. And because of the Gulf-Coast Current, the water temperature rarely drops below eighty-degrees. You can camp out on the beach and go wading in the winter time. I've done it and enjoyed it tremendously. Oh, and the fishing there is all but legendary. And this is just Padre Island (which, I might add, is also mostly a National Park). The entire Texas Coastline is lined with them, and some of them sport some pretty nice resorts. Nothing quite as renowned as Sandals or any of the other Bahamas Resorts, but still very nice.

So-Cal? Compete? Maybe for waves, but that's about it.

Though the joke in Texas about the Weather is -

Meanwhile ... As I post this, it's snowing in Chicago.

Since this is the "weather thread"...

Today is Family Day in Ontario - almost everyone has the day off. Who doesn't? Employees in essential services, workers at 24-hour corner stores or tourist attractions, restaurant staff ... and federal civil servants. Thus, I have to go to work.

We have a wind chill of -40° out there. Wish me luck.

Let's see... Over at Lackland Air Force Base right now, we're getting 22mph winds with gusts up to 30 at 46 degrees with misty rain.

Just the downswing after having a couple days of nice weather. Gonna be like this for a few days and then we'll be back to clear and warm weather. :p

- Bob Schroeck - 02-16-2015

Here in NJ, we had 3 degrees F overnight -- incredibly cold for us; Atlantic City, about an hour and a half south of us, broke its record for low temperature (set in 1888) and Trenton (half an hour from us) tied its record (also set in 1888). And it's supposed to hit -3 F tonight Nope, not any more; the forecast has changed. But we're set to get a couple more inches of snow in the next couple days.

It has been raining steadily and the temp is 50 degrees...beats the white stuff and freezing rain that Tennessee is getting.

It's still too cold for my taste, you want to hate someone, hate the folks in Hawaii and the Virgin Islands.
