Quickly Robin, to the Crosswalk! - Dartz - 08-23-2016

So, that's a thing.

Holy nostalgia, Batman! Now I can't wait for November!

I expect Bob and I will remember the joys of 1960s-era full-on-camp Batman, but the youngsters here might be in for a surprise. Treat it as a comedy where everyone involved maintains a deadpan expression throughout, and you'll be fine.

Oh, Dralm.  I'd managed to forget most of that series until just recently....

Big Brother is watching you.  And damn, you are so bloody BORING.

Just barely, but yeah. I know I was a big fan when I was in the single digits agewise, as my parents had a whole raft of pictures of me running around wearing a Batman Halloween mask...

This has the potential to be utterly awesome, or utterly awful. I don't think there's going to be a lot of room for it to settle in the middle.

Just a movie? Then it might end up actually being not bad.

Oh, come on, it's Camp. Even if it's awful, that just makes it better.

It is, sadly, possible to pass through the point of "so awful it's good" and come back around to "completely and utterly awful, and not in a good way that we'd be able to enjoy with Joel and the 'bots" territory.
And note that I am married to one of the locals responsible for the "inspired by" NDK con show known as Mystery Anime Theater here in Denver, so I've got a pretty good grasp of where that point is.

Granted, it is possible to go from "So Bad It's Good" to "So Bad It's Horrible" - the most famous example is the Star Wars Holiday Special.

But I doubt this will cross that line. Go to the YouTube page for the video and look at the description - there are quite a few people involved who know what they're doing.

It's not that I don't trust the American entertainment industry. It's that I trust the American entertainment industry not to make a good superhero series by either going too far on the camp or by going ALL DARK AND EDGY, ALL THE TIME to seem more 'real.'

You know, this movie would be the best place for DC to lampshade their own tendency to do that. I would love to hear West and Ward commenting on that. It would be beautiful.

Oh man. SO much love there. Hell, I didn't even know Julie Newmar was still alive!

Best Batman gets a reprise? Oh hell yeah.

Blows dust off thread, as (a) a reminder to go get a copy, and (b) a corrective to everything else we've been hearing this week.

It's good to see that the logic chains are as sound as ever:

I got a chance to watch part of that. at one point Batman is trying to talk Catwoman into surrendering and gets hit on the head from behind (by Penguin)

His vision blurs and swirls and suddenly there's 3 Catwomen, 1 modeled after each of the actresses who played the character. 8)
