Got a possibly-infected USB stick? Got a Raspberry Pi? - robkelk - 10-09-2018

Make a USB key sanitizer out of the Pi and get the data off the USB stick. You'll also need a second, bigger USB stick.

Quote:The code runs on a Raspberry Pi (a small hardware device), which also means it is not required to plug the original USB key into a computer.
Okay, minus five points for saying the Pi isn't a computer... but this is aimed at a non-technical audience.

And it's literally plug-and-forget once the Pi is set up: plug in the untrusted USB stick, plug in the trusted USB stick, plug in the Pi, let it do its thing until the blinkenlight stops blinking, unplug the Pi, unplug and toss the untrusted USB stick, unplug and keep the larger USB stick.

Nice. I'll probably have to show this to my dad. Given his field of work, an untrusted USB device is a serious matter.
