Half of 200 top American donors to the convoy protest that paralyzed downtown Ottawa and blocked parts of the Canada-U.S. border have names matching those of donors to Republicans and the most recent Republican president

Quote:The search found that 86 of those 200 convoy donors did not appear in the FEC database under the names and zip codes they disclosed with their donations to the anti-vaccine mandate convoy protest.

Only six convoy donors appear to have donated in the past to the Democratic Party or its candidates, while three have donated to both parties or to both Republican and Democratic candidates at various times.

This means that we now have the moral right to financially interfere with your politics. You did it first.

Question, does Canada permit foreign financial interference in its politics?

Because if not, I can see the formulations of arrest warrants and subpoenas moving across the border with demands to hand over the accused and witnesses.

Canada does not permit foreign donations to political parties or political non-profit organizations.

Foreign donations to a protest... are a grey area in current law.

I hope that's going under review, like, this month. This last protest cost a LOT of money, and I bet is still costing still more gobs of money.

You can at least block these people from entering Canada, right?

Considering that they're highly unlikely to be vaccinated? Yes, easily.

Crowdfunding platforms now required to report transactions, after truck convoy protests

They're to be reported to the government agency that's responsible for informing banks and police of apparent violations of our equivalent to RICO laws.

Hmmmmm... will there be another trucker takeover in Ottawa this year, or not?

The leader of the group calling itself "Canada Unity Freedom Convoy" sent out a press release over the weekend saying that there wouldn't be one because of "security breaches". Yeah, "Canada Unity" didn't like Canada knowing what they're planning.

And showing just how much unity "Canada Unity" has, other organizers immediately contradicted the press release.

Y'know, people won't take you seriously until you can get your own act together. The message, whatever it might be, has become lost in the noise that's being made at the top.

Just as well if the Canada Unity Nutbar Truckers can't organize a group bathroom trip, let alone another major multi-day disruption. I'm all for people having their voices heard, but there's a point where shouting louder only obscures the message, and it was never all that clear exactly what they wanted to accomplish besides grabbing people by the metaphorical collar and showing off their dental work.
