Song of the Day, 16 May 2006 - Bob Schroeck - 05-17-2006 (Dry your eyes, dry your eyes, dry your eyes, dry your eyes) Dry your eyes and quietly bear this pain with pride For heaven shall remember the silent and the brave And promise me they will never see the fear within our eyes (my eyes are closed) We will give strength to those who still remain So bury fear, for fate draws near And hide the signs of pain With noble acts the bravest souls Endure the heart's remains Discard regret that in this debt A better world is made That children of a newer day might remember And avoid our fate (Prepare for battle) And in the fury of this darkest hour We will be your light You've asked me for my sacrifice And I am Winterborn Without denying a faith is come That I have never known I hear the angels call my name And I am Winterborn Hold your head up high for there is no greater love Think of the faces of the people you defend (you defend) And promise me they will never see the tears within our eyes (my eyes are closed) Although we are men, with mortal sins, angels never cry So bury fear, for fate draws near And hide the signs of pain With noble acts the bravest souls Endure the heart's remains Discard regret that in this debt A better world is made That children of a newer day might remember And avoid our fate (Prepare for battle) And in the fury of this darkest hour We will be your light You've asked me for my sacrifice And I am Winterborn Without denying a faith in God That I have never known I hear the angels call my name And I am Winterborn And in the fury of this darkest hour I will be your light A lifetime for this destiny For I am Winterborn And in this moment I will not run It is my place to stand We few shall carry hope Within our bloodied hands (bloodied hands) Within this moment I am for you though better men have failed I will give my life for love For I am Winterborn And in the fury of this darkest hour We will be the light You've asked me for my sacrifice And I am Winterborn Without denying a faith in Man That I have never known I hear the angels call my name And I am Winterborn And in my dying I'm more alive than I have ever been I will make this sacrifice For I am Winterborn -- CrXshadows, Winterborn (This Sacrifice) -- Bob --------- For Jor-El so loved the Earth, he sent his only begotten son... Re: Song of the Day, 16 May 2006 - Kokuten - 05-17-2006 seconded. I was _certain_ that this was a reference to the John Ringo series of books that have become known as the 'Kildar' novels, including _Ghost_, _Kildar_, and _Unto the Breach_, all available in various forms from Baen publishing.Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979 Re: Song of the Day, 16 May 2006 - DHBirr - 05-17-2006 Quote:Yeah, in the first book in particular, the hero cites that song -- he actually refers to himself as "Winterborn" at one point, and somebody who knows the song gets really fierce about not invoking that kind of bad omen. If you read nothing else of this series, read the disclaimer ("All the characters and events portrayed in this book are fictional....") for Kildar. Ringo goes into a quite bit more detail about that, including the statement from his mother. Admittedly, one sentence in the disclaimer is a partial spoiler, but what the hell. ----- Big Brother is watching you. And damn, you are so bloody BORING. Re: Song of the Day, 16 May 2006 - Kokuten - 05-18-2006 Birr, have you read _Unto the breach_ yet?Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979 Re: Song of the Day, 16 May 2006 - DHBirr - 05-18-2006 Nope; I didn't know it was out already until you said so. I haven't even finished Kildar, yet -- and I really only skimmed the first third of Ghost so far (there are some things about Mike's sexual tastes that give me the willies, even if he does control them). Does Katrina ever talk him into it? I did read enough of Ghost to catch who it was he offed that made the terrorists so mad at him. I almost cheered as loud as President Cliff, right there in the bookstore. ----- Big Brother is watching you. And damn, you are so bloody BORING. Re: Song of the Day, 16 May 2006 - Kokuten - 05-18-2006 yes, she does. Take Ghost's sexual predilictions with a grain of salt - he's not you. The entire series is available in a multitude of formats from baen.com, which is where I get them. I do my reading with a Dell Axim X51v, but YMMV. _Unto the Breach_ is only available as an E-arc, an un-editted advanced reader copy, but it's very readable. And he's already working on book four... 8 )Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979 Re: Song of the Day, 16 May 2006 - Bob Schroeck - 05-18-2006 Okay, guys, I've let this discussion run for a while, but it's really out of place here. Please continue it over on General/General? Thanks. -- Bob --------- For Jor-El so loved the Earth, he sent his only begotten son... |
