Another reset - Dartz - 03-09-2024

Once again. We have reset to early morning on ma ch 7th. It's like groundhog day

RE: Another reset - Bob Schroeck - 03-09-2024

Yeah, just spotted it 15 mins ago or so. I was on a call with support when I saw this thread, and they're now escalating the ticket to the network operations center.

RE: Another reset - Bob Schroeck - 03-09-2024

The logo is back. Hopefully that's a good sign. When I get home tonight I need to check if my ftp access is back, too -- but the only reason I needed it was to replace the logo...

RE: Another reset - Bob Schroeck - 03-09-2024

And I have FTP access, and it looks like the boards' DB is stable again. But I'll be watching closely for a few days.

I thought that the Clue(do) weapon was a lead pipe, not a baseball bat... Smile

RE: Another reset - Dartz - 03-12-2024

And the posts from last night are gone, while the posts from the night before are back

Are there two different paralell databases?

RE: Another reset - Bob Schroeck - 03-12-2024

Dartz, can you be specific about what's vanished? I just confirmed that at least some posts from yesterday are still present.

RE: Another reset - robkelk - 03-12-2024

Posts 6, 7, and 8 in this thread are back. The post that I made to this thread saying they were gone is gone.

RE: Another reset - Bob Schroeck - 03-12-2024

Might be your cache, because nothing has changed in this thread for me since late Saturday -- in particular, I still see your post complaining that the other posts have disappeared. I've also been surveying the other fora and everything that I knew of for sure is still there.

RE: Another reset - Matrix Dragon - 03-12-2024

I made a post about how I used the fic updates thread as a guide, and that's gone.

RE: Another reset - Bob Schroeck - 03-12-2024

Crap. Okay, I know they still have the ticket open, if we're still seeing things disappearing by tomorrow I'll call my ISP and let them know.

RE: Another reset - Labster - 03-12-2024

This really feels like database replication issues. Possibly a cache issue but as far as I know you’re not using a cache.

RE: Another reset - Kilroy - 05-03-2024

5/3/2024 15:45 PM EDT. Another reset just occurred, jumping back to 5/1/2024.
I was reading a thread in Other People's Fanfiction when it happened.

RE: Another reset - Labster - 05-03-2024

Yeah. I just lost about 7 PMs when I was trying to read them.

RE: Another reset - Bob Schroeck - 05-03-2024

Oh, fun. And the board logo has reverted again. I'll bet I can't ftp in again, either. Time to have another chat with Netcarrier.

RE: Another reset - Dartz - 05-03-2024

Is something restoring from backups somewhere?

RE: Another reset - robkelk - 05-03-2024

Looks like it - a post that I thought was gone is back.

RE: Another reset - Labster - 05-04-2024

Either restoring from MySQL binlogs or a really broken replication was fixed.

RE: Another reset - Bob Schroeck - 05-05-2024

Okay, things should be back to normal, at least for the moment. I still don't know what the core issue was except they're still describing it as something unexpected/unanticipated, but the disappearing posts were because something happened to the primary machine they use to host websites, and they had to switch to a fallback machine, which apparently didn't have a recent image of the site on it. The fallback machine also wasn't set up to allow me to FTP in, which is what caused my timeout errors when I tried this and the previous time.

In any case, the ticket remains open should the glitch and the fallback happen again.

RE: Another reset - robkelk - 05-05-2024

Well, we only lost one day's worth of posts. That's well within most service-level agreements.

RE: Another reset - Bob Schroeck - 05-05-2024

Was it only one day's worth? I thought it was more.
