Doug's subconscious has been waiting for this one for a while -- it works just like you'd expect in a cartoon, creating a physical door that he can place up against a flat surface and open to whatever is on the other side. By default, pressure differentials and dangerous levels of heat/light/etc. do not propagate through the door, though Doug can disable this protection if he wants. The exact form is also variable to suit his whims and the surroundings, but by default it's a heavy, four-paneled wooden one with an old fashioned knob and iconic peek-through-the-keyhole type lock. (He can also manifest a suitable key while the song is active, which might have other applications if he needs a key for something that the door itself isn't suited to bypass with a bit of creativity and experimentation.) While open, the door frame is immobile relative to the surface it was placed against. Closed, he can remove it from either side without needing to end the song, or pick it up, change it if desired, and place it against another surface to open it again.

He doesn't remember what he saw the one time he tried opening the door while it was free standing in the open, but has the distinct impression that it was a bad idea and he should never, ever do that again.
