Notepad++ needs a manual update - robkelk - 12-10-2025
Version 8.8.9 was just released yesterday to mitigate a hijacking of the Notepad++ updater that redirects it to malicious servers, and then tricks people into downloading malware, thinking they're downloading the latest software release.
For obvious reasons, it won't be on the Notepad++ updater if your installation has been hijacked, so you'll have to download and install it manually.

(And if you're running Windows and aren't using Notepad++ as your plain-text editor, you should consider switching. It doesn't have any AI.)

Version 8.9.1 is available now. It turns the updater back on.
(It also fixes a minor issue with regex'es in the Find dialog.)
