''Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki" version, on the off-chance it makes a difference.

Asking for a possible story image.

Without breaking out our box set to confirm, I don't think they ever actually showed any alien writing. Unless the designs in Ryoko's cave counted.

There might be some signs or computer screens in GXP? I don't rmember, but being set almost entirely off of Earth it's likely your best bet.

edit: I wouldn't rule out "just happeneing" to match Japanese, though, whether oifficially IC due to historical contact with Earth or just as a product of the era it was originally created IRL

There are the symbols on the two tree trunk / robots (warriors in stasis in the TV series) from Ayeka's ship that ended up being used as door pillars.

Did a little poking around now that I'm more awake and found this Tumblr post with information and images from the 101 Tenchi Secrets book that came out in the 90s:

Quote:They are not actually kanji, but Juraian script, specifically being 'namae-moji', characters signifying names. ... In the excerpted image at top, we see the Juraian namae-moji for (left to right) Aeka, Sasami, Tenchi, and Ryoko.

(This post, and several copies of it off Tumblr, is basically the only information on Juraian script that exists anywhere on the web.)

Being that names are the only samples of Juraian script we've ever seen (and they have a special rule for their orthography according to the post), we can't be absolutely sure that the rest of the language looks the same. But it's a good starting point.

Thanks, everyone. It appears I can get away with "something that looks like Japanese but isn't".
