Challenge: Add this to Fenspace - robkelk - 06-25-2011

Other than having something to do with fenkinder, I'm at a loss as to what to do with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/26858_Misterrogers]this... but it really should be in Fenspace. Any ideas?

26858 Misterrogers is home to the Mister Roger's Memorial Children's Museum of Astronautics and Space Exploration, otherwise known by the masses as Mr. Roger's Neighborhood.

More like NASA's Space Camp than a museum, fenkinder and mundane children alike can enjoy two weeks of learning how to live and work in space. This is, in part, a practical survivalist program that shows all kinder what basic tools they should have close at hand at all times (such as skin suits) and how they can improve a bad situation (aka damage control). Children also learnthe basics of fen technology, proper handwavium handling (not using real handwavium, but a non toxic fluorescent color gel), and how to move around in free-fall. additionally, they are brought up to speed on recent advances in Fen science and current events in the field of exploration. A favorite item on their website is a webapp that allows one to track the progress of an exploration mission in real time.

Seeing no other submissions, http://www.fenspace.net/index.php5?titl ... sterrogers]I've added BA's to the FenWiki.

The Banzai Institute is deeply involved in Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, and the majority of all regular staff are Blue Blazers on good standing. Blackstone himself takes time out to instruct classes, including several on teamwork and critical thinking. When asked why the Institute is so keen on working at the museum, Blackstone says, "We owe it to Fred."

Myk-El Miller makes it a point to ensure he stops by Mister Rogers' Neighborhood at least twice a year, to not only participate in teaching the Handwavium course (which he designed pro-bono for the school), but also to teach new teachers a much more advanced course version of it.

Sabre hosts a yearly Junior Space Engineering Challenge at Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. The event is focused on scale model zero-g engineering challenges in a specially setup clear sidded zero-g vacuum room. Everything from space station design("The z-g station keeping stress test trips a lot of kids up on this one.") and construction to computer controlled cargo handling. All of it having to be 'wave free to enter. ("I want these kids using their heads, not just slapping 'wave on something and letting it handle all the fiddly bits." - Sabre)

All of the kids on the Grover's Corners, from the teenagers on down, were enrolled in this program shortly after their launch. Some of the adults, too, who just wanted to be sure -- they chartered what amounted to a private session.

Vulpine Fury has personally run a Fred Rogers telepresence for at least three events, similar to the actor that portrays Mark Twain in Hannibal, Missouri. His scripts have been vetted by child psychologists and his performance reviewed by at least three people who have worked with the man himself. Part of the fun is the seriously "meta" feeling of knowing that the guy doing the puppets in the Land of Make-Believe is himself a puppet being controlled by another guy in another room.
