[RFC]Whirly bird Havocs.... Fenspace Helicopters. - Dartz - 09-21-2011 Because planning for Maico's scoop chase, Frigga's OpFor spacecraft fleet needed to be rounded out. And I noticed there was only one waved helicopter on the Wiki.... so thought this'd be cool. And tried to get a distinctive feel as something Jet and Ford have built rather than anyone else. Quote:The first spacecraft wholly built on 77 Frigga, the Gr-02 Havoc is unusual in that it is based off of a helicopter frame. It originated partly as a Friday project of Jet Jaguar’s, with the original intent being to save money over buying fully-capable combat craft for Frigga’s OpFor. Outright speed and combat range weren’t an issue when it was launching off the asteroid it was designed to attack. And I still need to write up the motoroids. Then.... story! And someone else is probably whirling around in Airwolf. ________________________________ --m(^0^)m-- Wot, no sig? - HRogge - 09-21-2011 Nice writeup Dartz. "I can tell you, never try to give these things a normal parking slot like most other Fencrafts. But our greenhorn at traffic control just did it. That damned helicopter pushed around three freight chests, pushed over two motorcycles and threw up enough dirt that we got a complaint for twelve car drivers that argued their craft hadn't been that dirty. Well, a few hours of cleaning and they will be able to look through their car windows again." - heard in a bar near the traffic control office of Helium. - Star Ranger4 - 09-21-2011 Hmm, you might be right, but I'd expect that Airwolf's drive acts just like in its parents series, with 'turbo' being the default flight mode outside of atmosphere greater than x milibars and gravity greater than y g's. This both diferenciates it from Jet's Havocs and a couple of other things that came to mind when I started this reply but forgot while I was typing it. *facepalm* Hear that thunder rolling till it seems to split the sky? That's every ship in Grayson's Navy taking up the cry- NO QUARTER!!! -- "No Quarter", by Echo's Children - Dartz - 09-21-2011 I know what you mean. Sort of like stopping the rotor blades and switching over to another type of drive. Or Miles Mayhem's Switchblade from MASK. If a bit large. ________________________________ --m(^0^)m-- Wot, no sig? - Star Ranger4 - 09-21-2011 In fact, now that I think about it there was a (mostly thrown away) line in the Airwolf pilot episode(s) about the rotors effectively being disengaged above Mach 1 and the hull being basically a lifting body. In addition there was at least one case where they had to wait while they slowed down before they could engage the rotors and deploy weapons. Ergo, one could say that an Airwolf type craft exiting the atmosphere effectively did so in 'turbo' and would remain in said mode until certain conditions were met. "Don Tracey," the Blue Blazer that runs International Rescue, uses a 'waved helicopter as Thunderbird 2. It's not mentioned anywhere in the Wiki because I suck at updating the wiki. Might be a good way to ferry them around, then if they need to travel a long distance. All the while humming that delicious theme tune Frigga's ones don't, but since it appears Jet will be able to sell the design to the VVS(Unless someone else makes a better offer, or that gets vetoed), ones produced by them probably will. ________________________________ --m(^0^)m-- Wot, no sig? |
