Anyone else having problems migrating to yuku? - robkelk - 12-23-2007

I saw the note at the top of the page that the board will be migrating to yuku sometime this week, so I thought that this was a good time to migrate my ezBoard member proflie over. Problem is, the form refuses to recognize the text I key in from the captcha it gives me. I tried a half-dozen times, then went through the ridiculous process that they have to create a trouble ticket.
(As an aside, having worked on the Helldesk, er, Help Desk, in the past, it should not take a user a quarter-hour to open a trouble ticket. Fix your process, yuku and ezBoard.)
Anyway, I have trouble ticket NIH-77727 open with ezBoard about this, but who knows whether they'll get to it before they migrate the board? Especially at this time of year...

My account migrated just fine... haven't tried migrating the board yet, though, due to a mixture of complacence and being too busy...
ETA: I just looked at the process for board migration, and it's a help-ticket thing. Since it's going to happen automatically in the next week, I'm not going to bother.

I tried to migrate my acccount to yuku a while ago, but it never lets me log in. Haven posted onthe cat tales board for months because of it.
Looks like I could be rather boned here....

Re: Anyone else having problems migrating to yuku? - robkelk - 12-24-2007

They sent me a reply, asking me to try again with a different browser. I still have to figure out how to reply to that without losing my temper...

Re: Anyone else having problems migrating to yuku? - robkelk - 12-25-2007

I figured out what the problem is - yuku.com was in my "no cookies" list. (Sites only go there if they set cookies with identifiable information without asking first, or if they serve ads to third parties.) Clearing that entry allowed the process to complete.
So, why do they need to create a cookie to migrate my account? And why didn't they mention it during the migration process?

On the subject of board migration... wasn't that supposed to happen *last* week? And now there's a new thing up at the top there... Anyone know what's going on?
Edit: I guess there's a thread in general about this. '.'

Re: Anyone else having problems migrating to yuku? - Bob Schroeck - 01-04-2008

The "new thing" is just one of the endless banners that ezBoard throws my way with a "delete/show users/etc." option. In general, unless I find them extremely annoying, I just show them to you guys for a couple weeks and then dispose of them.

Re: Anyone else having problems migrating to yuku? - Bob Schroeck - 01-04-2008

As far as I can tell, no.
Oh, and the "this week" notice? It's text that's been crammed into the same "headline" where I put the chapter progress. I'm tempted to just erase it and let the actual yukufication be a surprise.

It's kind of pointless to have a warning when the thing being warned about *doesn't actually happen*.
(Not that I get why they need to migrate boards to this that the board owners don't feel a need to migrate, but whatever.)

..And quite frankly, I LIKED the old board style.

Ah well.

Well the change happened. time to update my bookmarks. Not happy with it at the moment but I'll give it a few days to get used to it.

- Morganite - 01-22-2008

Apparently it's possible to import ezboard themes... Would that make it possible to make it look like the old
forum?

This one makes my eyes hurt. x.x

I'm going to have to try and find some cached pages so if nothing else I can give it a makeover with proxomitron. (Since these people don't seem to
think user-selected skins are a good idea. -.- )

-Morgan. And if I wanted a hr before my signature, I would have put it their myself, idiots!

- M Fnord - 01-22-2008

I'm obviously missing something, because the forum layout doesn't look *that* different from the old one. The fonts are a bit larger, but that's
about it.

ETA: Okay, check that. I've noticed something that bears looking into: it looks like a lot of the preformatted stuff that got migrated didn't move
correctly. Check out the teaser threads down in the DW-specific groups for examples.

- Morganite - 01-22-2008

Well, it looks really different to me. The table spacings are all off, and some things don't have any background so there's no contrast, and
there's all this extra junk at the end...

And there's no buttons for things like link formatting on the reply form, which is annoying.

And there's the fact that I have to manually type in "br"s to get line breaks, which is somewhere beyond screwed up.

-Morgan. And this stupid horizantal rule here. *points down*

Good lord. we've been yukurized against our will! :O

there seems to be some funkyness in regards to what I is marked as new vs read.

I'll give it a few days to settle down, and if it's still confused I'll complain to yuku.

I'd prefer being jusenkoed over being moved to Lyngby, which at least isn't that close to where I really am, but I think I know which ip accsess caused them to think I'm from there.

If Bob is going to stick with this style I'll make a custom CSS override for the forums.

Be aware that if you use Mozilla, there is some funkiness due to CSS imcompatibility.

As for layout, options, whatnot... this is as much a surprise to me as to anyone else, and the admin menus are entirely new -- I have to search to
find everything. Please give me a few days to a week to explore and figure out how to set things to suit us.

Bob has barely had a chance to even look at the damned thing, let alone make decisions about styles. Bob is in fact quite busy dealing with a bug
that makes his preferred browser at home completely unable to enter messages.

This one makes my eyes hurt. x.x
This is the imported old ezBoard theme. I just confirmed by following those instructions, opening up the theme for a preview -- and
seeing the same thing we're seeing here.

I really need to sit down and work on it to make the board look the old way, but I don't have the time for it right now. Please be patient.

It did the same thing to me.

I also noticed that anyone who didn't have a location in their profile now lives in my home town.
