Personal Loading Screens (and Music!) - Logan Darklighter - 02-22-2008

I've done some interesting mods to my City of Heroes client-side over the months and years I've been playing. This is one of the more fun applications.

Unfortunately at the moment, I can't remember precisely where I got this app from in terms of URL. But I'm pretty sure someone here at the forums was
the one who pointed it out. But it's called City of Heroes Splasher. Basically, you can take any screenshot (or art in general) as long as it is 1024x768
and have this program replace the standard City of Heroes/Villains opening screenshot with one of your choice. In addition, you can replace in-game MUSIC as
well. And this goes for any bit of music in the game, if you can find the file for it. (DON'T try and replace the Pocket D music with some incredibly long
ambient mix, like I did. That just makes the damn program hang for AGES while it loads. But as long as it's reasonably short, like a standard 2-5 minute
song, it won't do too badly.)

So what have I done? Well, I replaced the opening music to the game (that sort of ponderous "heroic march" on the Heroes Side) with the Justice
League Unlimited theme, and made the following screen:

On the Villains side, the log in music is replaced with the Berg Katse theme from Gatchaman 94. And the screen looks like this:

Once I'm at the Hero Select screen, the view is again changed from that boring blue city outline to something that highlights my character in an
appropriate manner.

On the Villain Side... Well we're all striving to be top dog, right?

Well this is about as
high up as you can get. Smile while you're in that spotlight!

Why yes, I have a lot of fun tweaking my experience with this game, why do you ask? ^_^

custom login screen for City of Villains is arguably cooler than the other one.

How did you mod the loading screens that way? And how does it affect patching?

I described how I did it up in the OP. It's a program called City of Heroes Splasher. It does most of the work.

Doesn't affect patching whatsoever. The original screens and sounds are still there. These mods sit in a separate data folder that does not modify the game
client. It just tells the game client - "hey, instead of that file, load this one instead."
