I know where the Hanagawas are! - Sofaspud - 07-05-2009

They're running a restaurant in New York!

Fox, Valles... this REQUIRES a VIIOR2 field trip.... maybe not right away, but soon.

Send up a flag when it comes time to schedule this -- I think Peg and I will want to be in on it.

I believe that this is just in-story, but if I could afford it I wouldn't mind a RL get-together. Wink

Oh. I thought what was meant was an in-person visit by folks for research purposes. And socialization. And food.

An RL get-together would be cool indeed.... but expensive.

I've stayed in NYC before. Hotel rooms there cost more than my monthly rent, for a third the space, per night.

Not mandatory. There's a good hotel within walking distance of the Northeast Corridor train station in New Brunswick NJ that would probably cost far less, even factoring the cost of a train ticket into NYC in. There are more some miles from the station, and they even have shuttles, as I recall. (And failing that, I'm pointing you at stuff near us, which means a free ride if all else fails. We're in no condition to host people right now, but we can certainly act as a rallying point or simple transport, as needed.)
ETA:  Correction, two hotels in walking distance, but I don't know what the rates are at the second, as it just opened a little while back.

I haven't really the time, money or transportation to get up to NYC or Jersey. If I could, it would be quite an experience, though I'd not be able to
make it till I'm out of the 'poor student' phase.

Um, what's $1500, WG? Dinners look to be fairly reasonable for NYC, and in what I must admit was a cursory scan-through of the site I didn't see
anything else they were charging big money for.

first-class round-trip tickets. ain't no point in putting up with the institutional nightmare that is air travel without it.

and I'd need two of 'em O_O

eh, it'll hold. I'm planning on vacationing out-of-state in 2012, just to mess with myself in the case that the world is going to end. It would be far
too convenient to be home when the asteroid hits, I wanna be blasting across Nevada in a rented 'Stang.

Hrm.

A little poking tells me I can do economy to J. Random NY Airport (it doesn't seem to matter which) in mid- or late-August for about $250 one-way (and the
same back).

... which, y'know, I'll keep in mind? But unless I win the lottery or get a huge promotion between now and whenever this were to happen, I simply
can't afford it regardless of how much cheaper it is than first-class. Big Grin

(Which sucks, I'd like to see the ninja restaurant and meet Legendary folks.)

I'd launch from Seattle in 2012 and swing by to pick you up, Spuddles, but you'd be parched white from terror by the time we got to new york, and I
can't be paying for removal of pucker marks from upholstery.. ; )

_Please_.

I learned to drive from cops, EMTs, firefighters, and a crazy bastard who used to run the motor pool (my uncle). I can't ride motorcycles, but you
can't scare me in a car.

If this were to take place on a sunday, and I had a 6 week lead time, I could make it.

Ahem... I got people that live about 4 hours away from NY that would love to see me, but I doubt they'd spring for anything better than coach.

EDIT: Also have people 2 hours away from there that probably wouldn't mind putting two up for the night.

5 hours driving from home for me. 25 Hudson St., New York, New York

- Sweno - 09-12-2009

ok, slightly less than 6 weeks lead time (more like 3).

But I might be in the NY area on Sun Oct 4th.

Is there enough interest to make this happen?

(yay for thread zombification)
