Issue 17 announced! - Matrix Dragon - 02-09-2010 http://www.mmorpg.com/gam...s-Graphics-Overhaul.html Ultra mode, Epics at level 20, a new enemy, GR preorders get to use powersets early... GLEE! - Sweno - 02-10-2010 Squeeeeee -Terry ----- "so listen up boy, or pornography starring your mother will be the second worst thing to happen to you today" TF2: Spy - dark seraph - 02-10-2010 must have but unlocking epic arctypes at 20? that bugs me, what was the point of me grinding to 50 red side to get them now? - Logan Darklighter - 02-10-2010 Scuze me, I'll be in my bunk. (YeeeeeEEEEEEEEESSSSS!!!!!) - Baseload - 02-10-2010 IT WILL BE MINE! - Sofaspud - 02-10-2010 dark seraph Wrote:must haveWell, bear in mind I've been in the game for... just shy of 3 years now, and have yet to get my redside epic, though I'm within spitting distance finally at 46. And the only reason I'm so close is I hitched on to the Unicorna XP Express after level pacting became available. I imagine there are a lot of players like me. Hell, when I started out, I don't think there *were* redside epics. (Anyone remember if they were here as of issue 9?) Honestly, I've never *liked* the way you unlock them, red- or blue-side. I'd rather it was a quest thing, or a micro-transaction, or something along those lines. One of the reasons I've stuck with CoX so long -- and will be sticking with it for the foreseeable future -- is that it's very casual-friendly. I can pick up my toys and play with them and experience everything from event content to new ways to churn out those first 20 levels to epic end-game stuff and you-name-it... and yet I don't have to dedicate whole blocks of my life to it. WoW isn't like that, as much as they try to claim being casual-friendly. And CoX only got *more* casual-friendly with the Super Sidekicking system. So for my money... hells yeah. This is about goddamn time. There's nothing truly 'epic' about the Epic classes, other than bragging rights, the ability to say "My e-penis is bigger because *I* have a level 50!" They may have some advantage in PvP -- about which I've investigated little and care less, but YMMV -- but for the game as as whole they're just another class, with different quirks. It's like making the change from playing a Defender to playing a Dominator. Yeah, things are *different*... but you just have to re-train your reflexes and learn the new pros and cons. And if V is to be believed, Khelds are horribly broken anyway. ![]() You say "what was the point"? I'd be inclined to agree. What *was* the point? You should be irritated that you had to do that in the first place, not upset that they're making it easier. I think the original-flavor unlock was a holdover from the Emmert Era, myself. Just one more thing that's finally being thrown out as they re-vamp the game to make it better. (Granted, had the original method been a micro-transaction, and it was now becoming free... *then* I'd see grounds for righteous anger. But there we're talking about palpable impact.) EDIT: Given the listed launch date, can I be the first to say "Golly gee, I hope this isn't a REALLY BAD ATTEMPT at an APRIL FOOLS JOKE, NCSoft!" --sofaspud --"Listening to your kid is the audio equivalent of a Salvador Dali painting, Spud." --OpMegs - Baseload - 02-10-2010 I think it's great marketing given the recent issues with CO (And the sounds that alot of their player base is leaving. not sure, just from what i've been reading). I wonder if it's their attempt to draw the departing CO crowd to CoH. Kinda coincidence that this gets announced not long after the issues with CO - Bob Schroeck - 02-10-2010 I thought I might see this kind of announcement, because right before I entered the forums I found an invite in my email to playtest dual pistols on the test server. Maybe I'll go on tonight and create Mana Kirishima. (Assuming no one's beaten me to her, which might be a sucker's bet.) -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - OpMegs - 02-10-2010 Bob Schroeck Wrote:I thought I might see this kind of announcement, because right before I entered the forums I found an invite in my email to playtest dual pistols on the test server. (Assuming no one's beaten me to her, which might be a sucker's bet.)Well, I wouldn't have thought of Mana Kirishima as a Dual Pistols kind of gal...she seems more a war mace user, cause it's more "f'ing metal". :lol Mana Tatsumiya...on the other hand... ![]() --- "Oh, silver blade, forged in the depths of the beyond. Heed my summons and purge those who stand in my way. Lay waste." - Bob Schroeck - 02-10-2010 Gah. Brain fart. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Star Ranger4 - 02-17-2010 Okay, but what does it REALLY mean for toaster users like yours truly who wont be using ultra purdy mode anytime soon, other than a big download waiting in the wings? Hear that thunder rolling till it seems to split the sky? That's every ship in Grayson's Navy taking up the cry- NO QUARTER!!! -- "No Quarter", by Echo's Children - Sofaspud - 02-17-2010 Well... it's got quite a bit of content (from the link): Quote:In addition, there's the new enemy (about which details are still fuzzy, most suspect it's some form of personalized doppelganger/nemesis), and of course... new powersets. Which you can use regardless of how toaster-iffic your machine is. ![]() Really, the graphical update is only one part of this patch, and not even the biggest part. --sofaspud --"Listening to your kid is the audio equivalent of a Salvador Dali painting, Spud." --OpMegs - Foxboy - 02-17-2010 Plus the devs have outright stated that toasters that can handle the game-as-it-is will still be able to run the game-as-it-will-be. So a "ZOMG GFX COMPUTER" is not mandatory to appreciate Going Rogue... but it will likely help. ''We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.'' -- James Nicoll - Morganite - 02-17-2010 That was going to be my question. I remember when CoV came out, and I had to crank all the graphics settings down. Even with the upgrade I've done since, I might not be able to run the game at all if they did that again. -Morgan. - ECSNorway - 02-17-2010 It's getting to be time for me to be buying a new PC, I'm thinking. -- Sucrose Octanitrate.
