A possible moment from the Ministry Battle... - Bob Schroeck - 04-14-2014 I just thought of this little bit over the weekend, and it makes me giggle madly for minutes on end. Not sure I'll actually use it, more because of the facepalm factor than anything else -- believe it or not, it actually wouldn't be over the top for what's going to be happening in that fight, but it's the kind of thing that will make a reader groan and maybe throw away the fic. A female voice momentarily rose over the din of the battle: "...ghostly hauntings I turn loose! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice!" The little corner of my mind not concerned with the fight blinked at this. Forget where the hell she'd *heard* that, whichever of the summoners among my students that was. Whyinhell did she even think it would wor-- "It's *showtime*," a deep, gravelly voice said with immense satisfaction. Oh. Fuck. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - robkelk - 04-14-2014 Ack. Yes, that's definitely a Crossover That Should Not Be. Not the worst CTSNB, but a pretty bad one. What? "What could be worse?" Why wasn't Luna running? She was just standing there, her wand extended, and saying something. Something that seemed familiar. "I summon the light of destruction down upon my opponents. Stars, gather, and become the light which pierces everything. Tear through everything in a blaze of light. Starlight -" Oh, shit. I took cover. Quickly. -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. Adversaries remain citizens of the same state, common subjects of the same sovereign, servants of the same law." - Michael Ignatieff, addressing Stanford University in 2012 - Bob Schroeck - 04-14-2014 Heh. I've already got a similar moment mapped out for someone other than Luna. Luna... Luna is going to be one of the summoners Doug mentions above. At least in the current plans. I have specifics down for Harry, Hermione, Luna, Ginny, Hannah Abbot, Seamus Finnegan, Lavender Brown and Pansy Parkinson; not sure I want to do too many more for fear of making the battle narrative too unwieldy -- Hannah's stuff is probably too big as it is and needs to be trimmed by about half. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - DHBirr - 04-14-2014 Ah, well, it can always be worse. After all, suppose someone managed to get results with a reference to "the Power of Castle Gr--" No, I can't bring myself to finish it. ----- Big Brother is watching you. And damn, you are so bloody BORING. - Bob Schroeck - 04-14-2014 Ha! -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - robkelk - 04-14-2014 DHBirr Wrote:Ah, well, it can always be worse. Because casting magic while panicked is a bad idea. Especially when you are near an odds mangler like Doug's improbability field. - Pyeknu - 04-16-2014 Damn! With the way you guys are planning this, we're going to have one major curb-stomp delivered to Mouldyshorts and his friends!Well, it'll start out that way -- the entire DA, powered-up, against 12 Death Eaters is no contest. But, well... no plan ever survives contact with the enemy. And like, um, geeze, I forget who, someone on FF.net says, "If you give Frodo a lightsaber, you have to give Sauron the Death Star". The odds are going to change rather dramatically. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - DeputyJones - 04-17-2014 Quote:And then the fifteen-foot hamster in the 25-foot hamster ball shows up and goes all tenpins on the Death Eaters...Nah. It summons Boo! Susan Bones: "Go for the eyes, Boo! Show them the power of tiny mammals! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA" - DHBirr - 04-17-2014 I was thinking it summons Penfold -- accompanied, naturally, by Danger Mouse, who'll be the real problem for the villains. And the fifteen-foot hamster can also be summoned (very briefly) by Doug playing Weird Al's "Harvey the Wonder Hamster." Quote:He doesn't bite, and he doesn't squeal;----- Big Brother is watching you. And damn, you are so bloody BORING. - Labster - 04-17-2014 Now if you summoned Parson "Lord Hamster" Gotti from Erfworld... then they'd be in for a heap of trouble. Well, given enough time to plan. Since his forte is strategy and arithmancy, he'd probably of little use unless he knew the magic system beforehand, and that took quite a few Happy Meal toys. -- ∇×V |
