Larger than Life - robkelk - 03-15-2007

I spend my life on bullet trains & planes & boats & cars,
I've seen the wonders of the world & gazed upon the stars,
I thought that I had seen all that there was on Earth to see,
then you walked in and pulled the rug right out from under me.
Who would have guessed? I'd be so impressed.
I've seen the Pyramids at Giza, that tilty tower in Pisa,
but baby, they just don't do what you do
'cuz you're larger than life.
Some say the blue Atlantic is really quite gigantic,
well maybe, I just don't see what they do
'cuz you're larger than life.
Zeus & all his thunder,
he liked to get his kicks,
with this spell I'm under
I don't need parlour tricks.
I've seen the falls of Niagara, the theorem of Pythagoras,
but baby, they just don't do what you do
'cuz you're larger than life.
Zeus & all his thunder,
he liked to get his kicks,
with this spell I'm under
I don't need parlour tricks.
Well, this worldly Nova Scotian will give you her devotion,
so if you've got the notion, let's cause a real commotion,
let me give you a clue, if it was just me and you,
you'd see with only us two, that baby
we could be larger than life.

Larger than Life, by Holly Cole, written by Holly Cole, from the album Holly Cole, copyright 2007 Holly Cole Music Publishing

Gives someone else the power to become larger than life-sized - considering some of the items used for comparison, possibly much larger than life-sized. If Doug really cares about the person (i.e. he uses the song on Maggie), he gets to grow, too. This being a "torch song", it also gives him the usual infatuation side-effect.
Yes, it's an excuse to get another non-rock song into the Arsenal. But the list of Empowerment songs is rather sparse...
No, I don't (yet) have a place for this in BSBW. (Although if I tweak Chapter Four a bit... no, that chapter's too full of song effects as it is.)

(BTW, the album Holly Cole is brand-new; it was released yesterday. It's mostly covers - I think it may have my new favourite versions of Johnny Mercer's Charade and Cole Porter's It's Alright with Me - the above is the only original song on the album. Highly recommended if you like vocal jazz.)

The Backstreet Boys have a song of this title, too. There's a great Ed-centric Cowboy Bebop video set to it, out there somewhere.
I already have it cued up for use in an upcoming Step.
But I certainly won't mind looking into this one...

I always liked that Backstreet Boys song, possibly because I thought the video was cool.
I was also always amused that it is the only Backstreet Boys song my brother likes, and it's the song they 'dedicated to all the fans who were with them from the start' (or something like that). 8P__________________

It's one of only two Backstreet Boys songs I like. (The other is "I Want It That Way" or whatever it's called, mainly because of how much I like the Weird Al parody, "I Got It On Ebay".)
