Speaking of power-granting songs... - Feinan - 02-15-2006 There's a fun filk rock group called Ookla the Mok. They do some fairly impressive songs, and this one appears to be tailor-made for granting songs to others. I don't know if this should be a targeted song, or if anyone in Doug's area of effect gets tagged. I sort of lean towards the second idea, since it'd generate some lovely chaos. The powers granted...well, Doug could determine them, they could be utterly random, based on the targets' personalities, or maybe their own favorite ideas for powers. But this should do the job fairly well, I'd think. Super Powers copyright 1998 Randam music words by Rand Bellavia and Adam L. English music by Adam L. English and Rand Bellavia performed by Ookla the Mok I got bitten by a radioactive bug I tried an experimental drug I went out for a stroll on a gamma testing range I found an enchanted Uru cane I made a serum that made me small I modified the serum so it would make me tall I got radioactive isotope in my eye A dying alien helped me accessorize I gained the proportionate strength of a spider Now I'm invincible and I can fly I lost my sight and my other senses were heightened I'm gonna put on my pajamas and go fight crime Now I'm a super hero (now I am a) I'm a super hero now (super hero) Now I'm a super hero (I'm a super) I got my super powers (hero now) My best friend and my girlfriend (and her brother) went into space Who'da thought we'd get bombarded by cosmic rays It turns out I'm the last of a powerful alien race My mother formed me from a lump of magic clay I'm given super powers by a yellow sun I studied under the Ancient One I got an adamantium skeleton Some grizzled old wizard taught me a magic acronym Now I got the wisdom of Solomon And the Strength of Hercules I haven't memorized what "AZAM" was But I still fight evil in my red pajamas Chorus I gotta get me a helicopter And you can get a jet plane We'll take out their surveilance tower We can make up code names And when you get home at the end of your day I'll pack your parachute and put away Your utility belt and gas grenades You were never meant to see I showed you my secret identity I suppose that I could always hypnotise you If I wanted to But I propose another thing You can wear my decoder ring We can have matching hovercraft We can go undercover After all we might just fall like stars from the sky You know too but I know you you won't be happy til you try Super hero team-up Cowboy secret space detective true love Super villain two-in-one The bad guys have taken over Washington Don't be scared cause I'm prepared There's an emergency but I'm ready Cause fortunately I'm a super hero too I got super powers just like you Now I'm a super hero Now I'm a super hero Now I'm a super hero I got my Re: Speaking of power-granting songs... - Bob Schroeck - 02-15-2006 Oh, I know OtM. I have some of their stuff. Cool idea, but definitely not a song native to Doug's homeworld... -- Bob --------- For Jor-El so loved the Earth, he sent his only begotten son... Re: Speaking of power-granting songs... - robkelk - 02-15-2006 It could be one of the songs in the soundroms that the Knight Sabers gave him at the end of DWII, though... -Rob Kelk -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. Adversaries remain citizens of the same state, common subjects of the same sovereign, servants of the same law." - Michael Ignatieff, addressing Stanford University in 2012 Re: Speaking of power-granting songs... - Necratoid - 02-16-2006 Could have came on as the background music on some sight in the middle of his online research of super heroes. If he was just clicking around various links about background stories and a random sight decided it need background music. I've been ambushed by sights with background music, that suddenly kicks in more than a few times. Also, the way the song is worded it may not immediately lend temporary superpowers so much as CAUSE the most likely origin story available in the AoE. Random chemicals in store fall on some employee and the combo is just right to set off a dormant mutation. A bum eats just the right combination of garbage to form a potion in his stomach that gives him the power to fire exploding pickles from his eyebrows. A secretary gets so frustrated she bashes her head into her keyboard in exactly the right way to dial up a secret organizations websight and the morons follow up stupidity makes her bash in the password to their incomplete internet super powers file, which she runs. A teenager with a Destiny gets obsessed with a video game that the gods smite him for blowing off his Destined meeting with Fate... thus fusing man and machine. Not necessary useful powers just ones that count as supernormal. Even if its just the ability to turn into a giant floating Technicolor yawn rutabaga... which impressed bored people at parties. The song gives his improbability field a mission and more range. Feed back like on 'I'm Alive' when its finished. Not really targetable. To allow post-1998 and obviously non-native-WW songs was one of the reasons I did that, so I might as well use it. -- Bob --------- For Jor-El so loved the Earth, he sent his only begotten son... No, I think I like the idea of giving different powers -- supercharging an entire crowd would be fun, especially if I added that caveat that each recipient got a unique set. It'd probably knock him off his feet, though, for larger groups. -- Bob --------- For Jor-El so loved the Earth, he sent his only begotten son... |
