Things Chris thinks up.... - jpub - 11-08-2003

When he's in a post-game-ending depression. Powers from these are left to your suggestion.

"Mother Dawn" by Billy Idol
Hold me, hold me
Breathe the light into me
Hold me, hold me
Mother dawn
Mother dawn
Dancing 'round the fire
Circling the flame
Listen to the shadows calling out my name
They say
Rock me like a baby
Cradle me in the light
Bathe me in a rainbow
Sun restore my sight
Hold me, hold me
Breathe the light into me
Hold me, hold me
Mother dawn (All night long yeah)
Hold me, hold me
Breathe the light into me (All night long yeah)
Hold me, hold me
Mother dawn
Look into the light
Come and take a journey through the land of night
Darkness strokes the face and
Steals away the sight
Night is all around me
Stars are in my hair
I feel them tangled in the secrets we'll
Find hidden there all right
Reaching through the madness
To the other side
Where the sun is rising
With her arms held wide
Hold me, hold me
Breathe the light into me
Hold me, hold me
Mother dawn (All night long yeah)
(Till the dawn light comes)
Hold me, hold me
Breathe the light into me (All night long yeah)
Hold me, hold me
Mother dawn (All night long)
(I know you're gonna love me)
(I know you're gonna love me)
One star flew against the tapestry of the night
And the earth revolved in perfect symmetry
To a symphony of sun
The moon danced its final bow
As the birth of day
Exploded
In my eyes
Reaching through the madness
To the other side
Where the sun is rising
With her arms held wide
Rock me like a baby
Cradle me in light
You're gonna bathe me in a rainbow
And the sun restore my sight
Hold me, hold me
Breathe the light into me
Hold me, hold me
Mother dawn
Hold me, hold me (All night long yeah)
Breathe the light into me
(Till the dawn light comes yeah)
Hold me, hold me (All night long yeah)
Mother dawn (I know you're gonna love me yeah)
I know you're
Gonna love me
All night long yeah
Till the dawn light comes
All night long yeah
I know you're gonna love me love me
All night long yeah
Till the dawn light comes
All night long yeah
I know you're gonna love me love me
Mother dawn

"The Rain" by Garrity
I didn't even think about the rain
No, I didn't even think about the snow
The falls down in the middle of march
Didn't even think about the plans, trains, cars, one hit
wonder movie
Stars
And I, didn't think about the rain
She dreams a dream of of walkin' on a wire
She seems to me to be a little bit tired she's got her
hands over her eyes
I'm afraid I can't believe that her and I fall away from
the building where we stood I wouldn't change a minute
if I could
I didn't even think about the rain
No, I didn't even think about the snow
The falls down in the middle of march
Didn't even think about the plans, trains, cars, one hit
wonder movie stars
And I, didn't think about the rain
And you're in my mind
I'm not afraid of falling
And you're in my mind
I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid
I didn't know if you thought very much of me
I didn't know if you cared if I'd fallen apart push me out,
pull me in, stick me anywhere
And I didn't know what she thought from the start
She thought from the start
And you're in my mind
I'm not afraid of falling
And you're in my mind
I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid
I didn't even think about the rain
No, I didn't even think about the snow
The falls down in the middle of march
Didn't even think about the plans, trains, cars,
One hit wonder movie stars
And I, didn't think about the rain
Rain falling rain...
Didn't think about the rain...

"Laugh Out Loud" by Garrity
Forget who you were, that's all they say to him,
Hey, just wanna be friends, just wanna be livin'
life better now. Stand where you are, pose for the photograph.
You better keep still, don't crack a smile and don't...
Laugh out loud (laugh out)
You're not think' straight today - you better not
Laugh out loud (laugh out)
'cause there must be a better way
Give what you got, wait for the right time.
Maybe you gotta wait long, maybe you don't though.
Give what you dot, give it all to the other half.
Maybe you gotta wait long but don't crack a smile and don't...
Laugh out loud (laugh out)
You're not think' straight today - you better not
Laugh out loud (laugh out)
'cause there must be a better way
Inside a room, standing on my head again.
Better not fall behind, better not take another chance.
Lie on the bed, look up to the roof again.
Stnad still and don't crack a smile and you better not...
Laugh out loud (laugh out)
You're not think' straight today - you better not
Laugh out loud (laugh out)
'cause there must be a better way
You better not laugh out loud (laugh out)
You're not thinkin' straight
You're not thinkin' straight
You better not laugh out loud...

What game?
The context which comes first to my mind is video games, but after living in this area for something like seven years I'm well aware that people do feel that strongly about football, baseball and the like....

Did you rhyme these two lines on purpose?

"Mother Dawn" by Billy Idol
Sounds to me, just based on the lyrics, like a song to soothe the mind - a cure for insanity and/or blindness.
Can't really help you with the others - I've got some nebulous ideas for "Laugh Out Loud", but nothing I can fix on, and "The Rain" leaves me blank; at the least I'd have to actually hear it.

Well.. - jpub - 11-09-2003

The game was FFX, and then .hack 3, and then my 2nd run through of Breath of Fire V. Somehow my playing habits got me to finish all three of these at once.
I usually have this problem though. The longer I spend on the game, the worse it gets (FFX was bad, 60h of playtime, sheesh).

On Powers:
Mother Dawn - I honestly think this one is up to your own emotional impression of it. Looking at the lyrics, I think of things like: a blindness cure, a light based attack, or even basic healing. For some reason, the way it sounds makes me think of something along the lines of Sailor Moon in Serenity mode - frighteningly powerful, but benevolent.
Laugh Out Loud - Oh, that one's simple. Confusion, debilitation, uncontrollable laughter.
The Rain - a nice simple rainstorm. The song's pretty upbreat.

Just rereading it now, I was starting to get a similar (if not as explicitly identified) sense from it. I doubt I could fit it into what little of a plot the DW-SM outline has, though, because I just don't see a need for Doug to invoke or duplicate Serenity-hime -- in that particular story. Afterwards? Maaaaaybe...

Agreed. And it would be the kind of thing Doug would love to use, especially on dour opponents.

A better choice, too, sometimes, than Doug's one current rain-making song, which is "Taxi". (The one that starts, "It was rainin' hard in Frisco, I had one more fare to make the night...")

I was under the impression that Doug's metatalent didn't usually stretch quite as far as those levels of power... but perhaos the song could act as a beacon that calls out to frighteningly powerful but benevolent beings to say that their help would really be appreciated sometime between now and when everyone goes 'squish' a few seconds from now. While potentially day-saving, it's something I personally wouldn't want to rely on... after all, the cat you call isn't always what shows up at the dish, and the thing about calling cats is that sometimes they don't come at all.

Good point, CD. Although, it would be highly amusing to have Doug use the song and have someone like Ameratsu(sp?) so up and go "What?"

Re: Well.. - Ace Dreamer - 11-13-2003

If Amaterasu No Kami _does_ turn up, and the combatants are vaguelly shintoism (or maybe just Japanese), that has got a pretty good chance of stopping the fight, or indeed any action, right there!
Maybe a bit like Odin turning up at a fight including Vikings (and, actually revealing that he is there)?
Pantheon heads _do_ tend to attract a bit of attention...

Re: Well.. - Bob Schroeck - 11-13-2003

No, Doug is not strong enough to emulate Serenity the Elder (or even the Younger at her best) all by his lonesome. Getting the attention of a god, well, I think it's fairly well established by this point that Doug can do that, even sometimes when he doesn't want to.
