Obscurity from the Past! - Herr Bad Moon - 10-17-2003 Here's a song I got from my Dad while he was recording all of his old records onto mp3 format. This was part ease of use and part crumudgeony act of defiance to the RIAA. This song reminds me of Doug in a lot of ways, though I don't think he's very mercenary at all. Plus the spegetti western sound of it appeals to me. Ballad of Paladin by Johnny Western. Theme song to the television show Have Gun Will Travel (1957). Have Gun Will Travel reads the card of a man. A knight without armor in a savage land. His fast gun for hire head's the calling wind. A soldier of fotune is the man called Paladin. Paladin, Paladin where do you roam? Paladin, Paladin, far, far from home. He travels on to wherever he must; A chess knight of silver is his badge of trust. There are campfire legends that the plainsmen spin Of the man with the gun, of the man called Paladin Paladin, Paladin where do you roam? Paladin, Paladin, far, far from home. Far from home. Far from home. Next up is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. It's got smirking glee written all over it and could be a nasty ranged attack. Bottlerocket War by Pain Never enough celebrating Independence Day. It was never enough to celebrate the eve of New Years Day. What about my friends and me, can we have our say? Cuz all our many enemies need to be blown away. Aint no sting like a bottlerocket burrowing Deep into the side of your face. And have you ever felt the big welt That a Roman candle leaves in its place? The woods in the neighborhood are worth getting put in jail. Well fight em in the tunnels and well fight em in the swamps And theyll never get past never gonna go! Four Bics get flicked and the punks get lit. We never asked if we should Its a game, its a chore, its a bottlerocket war And life never got so good. Build a pile, everything we bought from Crazy Bill. Crazy Bob, and Crazy Ken, Theyd sober up if they knew about The Plan. We got enough pyrotechnics to fill up a wagon Like a Chinese party in the year of the dragon. Im standing next to Poe and this is what he said: Chuck can lift a manhole cover with his head! (Here we go!) Four Bics get flicked and the punks get lit. We never asked if we should Its a game, its a chore, its a bottlerocket war And life never got so good. Were just trying to have some fun. Were not hurting anyone. The lights burst like magic spells And make a sweet sound like bells. Four Bics get flicked and the punks get lit. We never asked if we should. Its a game, its a chore, its a bottlerocket war And life never got so good. Never got so GOOD. And just because its silly, Unseen Tears of the Albacore by The Vandals. I'll put up the lyrics later maybe, but its a goofy song lamenting the fact that everybody loves dolphins but nobody cries for the tuna. --- Jon "And that must have caused my dad's brain to break in half, replaced by a purely mechanical engine of revenge!" Re: Obscurity from the Past! - Bob Schroeck - 10-17-2003 Quote:Oh, you can't believe how hard I laughed when I saw this... you see, before I settled on Drunkard's Walk, I deliberated over several other possible titles, one of which was "Have Helmet, Will Travel". (Of course, I was playing less off "Have Gun" and more off Heinlein's "Have Spacesuit, Will Travel", but even so...) Quote:Yes, it could, at that -- probably nonlethal, but in no way ignorable... I like. Quote: -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. Re: Obscurity from the Past! - Valles - 10-17-2003 This thread has spurred me into motion. Unfortunately, I've spent a lot of my 'new music' energy lately hunting down different cuts of "Because the Night" - so far I've found Patti Smith, 10,000 Maniacs, Bruce Springsteen, a surprisingly entertaining cover by a heavy-metalish band called Keel, and various rather indifferent techno versions. Anyway, on to powers. Bad Religion - You've Got A Chance (Power - GM Fiat, whatever brings Doug even with the opposition and/or teleporting Doug to the nearest conflict that would be... hmmm... his concern) A rhapsody! You've got a noon appointment, You've got to hit the links You're talking in the stratosphere, You're curled up on the floor With such a wealth of information, Why are you so poor? You've got a chance To be relevant today Desperate romance Is the curse of castaways What good is skill If you don't make it to the dance? (don't you believe what the wise men have to say) Despite circumstance You've got a chance Bad Religion - Raise Your Voice (Amplifies Doug's voice, of course. And oblitherates his sense of tact...) fa fa fafa fa fa fafa raise your voice! don't be played like someone else's board game don't be classed out like some desperate redoubt don't be misled you've got a lot on your head and nobody's gonna pay attention when you are dead so... fa fa fafa fa fa fafa raise your voice! it's the primary rule, you gotta wanna be fooled it's our daunted restraint that keeps us silent in shame it's our nature to be adversarial and free our evolution didn't hinge on passivity fa fa fafa fa fa fafa raise your voice! Fleetwood Mac - Caroline (A rewind key for the universe! Fortunately or un, it also suffers from the same limitation as what's-his-face... O'shae? Transfictional-traveler-type-person. Him. Doug has to Change Something, preferably fatally.) she's so crazy she's so lazy keeps on coming keeps you running caroline caroline time recedes with a fatal drop dusty fury on the mountain top cut the cord if you can caroline caroline she's so cagey she's so stagey so attractive so reactive caroline caroline time recedes with a fatal drop dusty fury on the mountain top cut the cord if you can caroline caroline caroline caroline time recedes with a fatal drop dusty fury on the mountain top cut the cord if you can caroline caroline caroline caroline Fleetwood Mac - Isn't It Midnight (Doug turns into Bishie Ed! Only for him, it actually -works-.) so cool, calm and collected you had a style, a rakish style well my poor heart never connected you'd stay so long on my mind well isn't it midnight on the other side of the world do you remember the face of a pretty girl the face of a pretty girl looking back so long ago you had a knack, a knack of making women know ooh there wasn't the time and i knew you'd never be mine well isn't it midnight on the other side of the world do you remember the face of a pretty girl the face of a pretty girl the face of a pretty girl well isn't it midnight on the other side of the world do you remember the face of a pretty girl the face of a pretty girl the face of a pretty girl The Offspring - Staring at the Sun (Grants super-speed and acts like a sledgehammer dose of Prozium. Fear, rage, love, sympathy, discouragement... no more emotions, nothing but Purpose. At least, until the song ends.) Maybe life is like a ride on a freeway Dodging bullets while you're trying to find your way Everyone's around, but no one does a damn thing It brings me down, but I won't let them If I seem bleak Well you'd be correct And if I don't speak It's cause I get disconnected But I won't be burned by the reflection Of the fire in your eyes As you're staring at the sun When I ran I didn't feel like a runaway When I escaped I didn't feel like I got away There's more to living than only surviving Maybe I'm not there, but I'm still trying Though you hear me I don't think that you relate My will is something That you can't confiscate So forgive me, but I won't be frustrated By destruction in your eyes As you're staring at the sun Blessed be. -n =========== =============================================== "V, did you do something foolish?" Sure, he wouldn't know who Aqua Man is, but the image persisted. --- Jon "And that must have caused my dad's brain to break in half, replaced by a purely mechanical engine of revenge!"
