A Down to Earth Song - nocarename - 01-27-2008 Local band that disintegrated, but they put out a CD first. Title: Gospel Rock Band: The SplendourBog Run Time: 2:57 Gospel Rock When I was young, liquid granite I was diagnosed schizophrenic Neither feldspar, nor mica, nor quartz But the sum of the three Bonded igneously That means melted together for life Well, I was hot and dejected Oh, I was injected Under layers and layers of dirt But, it was there that I changed All my crystals rearranged Into G-N-E-I-S-S, gneiss So, take a look, and you'll see That I'm not what I used to be I've been touched metamorphically All the heat and the pressure They changed me forever So don't take me for granite, I'm gneiss Well, I wasn't to been seen Till time changed the scene Exposing my face to the sun But, now its here that I sit Being worn down bit by bit Oh, erosion is wearing me down So, be aware, have a look Underground, underfoot For that beautiful pinky-grey face The Canadian shield Holds a magnamous yield Of the rock that was changed into gneiss (C)1990 Jason Summach, Watchin' Music Co. Adversaries remain citizens of the same state, common subjects of the same sovereign, servants of the same law." - Michael Ignatieff, addressing Stanford University in 2012 - DHBirr - 01-28-2008 Quote: The lyrics indicate that he'd be a really gneiss guy...OWWWW.... A kid once wrote on a geology test, "Granite is made in a hot place deep inside the earth. I guess you know who makes it." Art Linkletter's book Kids Write the Darndest Things! illustrated this with a cartoon showing Satan stirring a cauldron. Perched on the rim, a demon said, "Don't take me for granite!" Punning aside.... Stone form, yes, I'm inclined to agree. I'm not sure about the earthquakes, though, but that's just a feeling, not based on anything specific in the song. ----- Big Brother is watching you. And damn, you are so bloody BORING. - Bob Schroeck - 01-29-2008 I like the stone form, but I'll agree with DHBirr about the earthquakes. And I can pair it up with ELO's "Turn to Stone", too. And before I forget, Nocarename, welcome to the forums! -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - nocarename - 01-29-2008 Thanks, The chorus covered a disturbing amount of my intro-geology course. If it's not an ore, it's basically feldspar, mica or quartz. Percentages and variety differ and there are always trace elements. But almost always: feldspar, mica, quartz. About the earthquakes... if I didn't try, I'd never know. Which might be the reason why I was told I couldn't ignite Jupiter during that one game, no matter how much alien tech I got my grubby, little, looting mitts on.
