Gah. I have no idea what happened there. This is why I should always check on a post after I make it.
Let's try that again.
Looking for a Harry Potter fic, of reasonably recent vintage. Last 3 or 4 years, I think. I can't remember the plot, except it had an evil!Dumbledore manipulating Harry, with of course Harry's friends on Dumbledore's side for various reasons of their own. Harry thwarts him, of course, at the end, but the enraged and off-balance Dumbledore appears to murder him with a reducto to the neck as Harry apparates away. Harry is never seen again and is believed dead. The only part I remember clearly is the ending/epilogue: Hermione, now a professor at Hogwarts, is visiting the home of a new muggleborn student to introduce the child and their family to the concept of magic -- except it's not a muggle family, it's Harry's. He's got a vicious scar across his throat, he can't speak above a whisper, and he's still holding a grudge against the Wizarding world and his old friends. I remember a line about not being able to sing his child to sleep. In the end, Harry rejects Hogwarts for his child, and Hermione finds herself obliviated and transported somewhere else in the world, alone with her regrets and sadness.
Does that sound familiar to anyone? I thought I found it in Bobmin's Exposure, A Dark Fic!, but although it has similar elements, it's a completely different story.
