Looking for Examples - Bob Schroeck - 03-03-2012 I'm working up a new fanfic trope for the TVTropes wiki, and I just had my memory short out on me; I'm hoping folks can come up with a few more examples for me, as I know I've forgotten at least two that I intended on adding to this. Here's the proposed trope: Quote:Virtual SoundtrackCan anyone think of any other good examples? (And no, DW is not one.) Thanks. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Jorlem - 03-03-2012 Admiral Tigerclaw's My Little Blackbird had some music links, IIRC. ----- Stand between the Silver Crystal and the Golden Sea. "Youngsters these days just have no appreciation for the magnificence of the legendary cucumber." --Krityan Elder, Tales of Vesperia. - ECSNorway - 03-03-2012 I know I've seen a few, but I can't recall any offhand... Oh, and Ranma was the only one who did the singing thing in RAALS. Love that story. -- Sucrose Octanitrate. Proof positive that with sufficient motivation, you can make anything explode. - K sai - 03-03-2012 Baen has just released an anthology constructed around that concept: Foreshadows: The Ghosts of Zero - Foxboy - 03-03-2012 A lot of recent Ponyfic has links to youtube clips for music. I can't recall titles right off... but still. ''We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.'' -- James Nicoll - Seraviel - 03-03-2012 Lemon Sherbet by John Biles was well-known to have a bunch of those. -People may die, but ideas are forever. Je suis Charlie. - Bob Schroeck - 03-03-2012 Thanks everyone! ECSNorway Wrote:Oh, and Ranma was the only one who did the singing thing in RAALS. Love that story.Actually, I just got finished rereading it -- it's one of the reasons I wrote up this trope suggestion -- and there are multiple duets between Ranma and Akane. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - classicdrogn - 03-03-2012 I've done it myself in Bubblegum Disaster Ch5b with "Shock the Monkey." Given how early-UF-inspired the whole thing is in general, this should be no surprise. - CD -- "Anko, what you do in your free time is your own choice. Use it wisely. A quick look doesn't reveal any, unless they're buried in the text and hard to see. Maybe you're thinking of another story? Quote:Lemon Sherbet by John Biles was well-known to have a bunch of those. It was? I didn't remember that... I'll have to go look. Again, thanks! -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Rod.H - 03-04-2012 Bob, ATC's music links are typically an inline text link or an embedded youtube clip at the appropriate points. - Black Aeronaut - 03-04-2012 Yeah, with FiMfiction you may need to enable scripts in order to see them. The site runs pretty heavily on them for (as far as I can tell) aesthetic purposes. - Jorlem - 03-04-2012 This post. ----- Stand between the Silver Crystal and the Golden Sea. "Youngsters these days just have no appreciation for the magnificence of the legendary cucumber." --Krityan Elder, Tales of Vesperia. - Ebony - 03-05-2012 It's not fanfic, but every one of the Shadow Unit episodes has a playlist that the author(s) used while writing them. Links to them (and other easter eggs) are hidden in the source code for the story pages. Please note that these are for each "episode" (full-length stories) rather than the "DVD extras" (vignettes). Ebony the Black Dragon http://ebony14.livejournal.com "Good night, and may the Good Lord take a Viking to you." - Proginoskes - 03-06-2012 Break down that Undocumented Features example for the only ones I can think of off the top of my head. I feel like there are a bunch of others that I've forgotten about, but it might just be the fact that every UF story ever except for Core seems to exemplify the trope. - Bob Schroeck - 03-14-2012 In case anyone's interested, the trope's been launched, pretty much exactly as it was posted above. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - classicdrogn - 03-14-2012 Quote:Very often these are same pieces of musicI think that should be "some pieces" or possibly "the same pieces," no? - CD -- "Anko, what you do in your free time is your own choice. Funny how no one at YKKTW noticed that... -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. |
