Poem of the day - 11/11 - robkelk - 11-11-2007 In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. John McCrae, In Flanders Fields Lest we forget. -Rob Kelk -- Rob Kelk "Governments have no right to question the loyalty of those who oppose them. Adversaries remain citizens of the same state, common subjects of the same sovereign, servants of the same law." - Michael Ignatieff, addressing Stanford University in 2012 Re: Poem of the day - 11/11 - Logan Darklighter - 11-11-2007 Hand over heart. World War 1 is now so far away in time, that a bare handful of the Veterans of that war are now still with us. They shall soon all be reunited with their comrades, the friends of their youth. And they'll have no more quarrel with the youths who were on the other side. They'll all be able to drink a toast to each other in the halls of Valhalla. The Great War. The War to End all Wars. Would that were so. But War will always be with us. And if wars are to be fought, and young men must go to die, then they should be honored. Today we remember them. And raise salute. -Logan ----------------- "Wake up! It is the VETERAN, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the VETERAN, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble. It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the VETERAN, not the politician, Who has given us the right to vote. It is the VETERAN, who salutes the Flag, It is the veteran, who serves under the Flag, ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM. ********************** www.terry-kelly.com/pitta..._video.htm __________________ "I'll be more enthusiastic about encouraging thinking outside the box when there's evidence of any thinking going on inside it." - Terry Pratchett ___________________________ "I've always wanted to be somebody, but I should have been more specific." - George Carlin |
