Speed Racer Trailer -- GO!!! - Logan Darklighter - 03-17-2008

Okay, I have been skeptical pretty much from the word go on the whole idea of bringing Speed Racer to live action. Well it's official -

NOW I am beginning to be IMPRESSED!

I think they have made the right decision here in terms of the world and how to portray it. You CAN'T bring Speed Racer into the real world. Not really. So
the solution? Make the world as BATSHIT INSANE as the original series.

I think this...

JUST.

MIGHT.

WORK.

It looks quite interesting. I am reminded of the saying "That's crazy. So crazy it just...might...WORK!" indeed. Worthy of a follow up when
things move along further.

the trailer is definitely interesting, but that is no guarantee of quality.

It's like they made an Extreme G movie.

who.. who's that _girl_?

Is that (the Female Romantic Interest) Michelle Meyrink, late of Real Genius?Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979

- s3yang - 03-18-2008

Nah, it's Christina Ricci.

- Bob Schroeck - 03-18-2008

Yeah, Michelle Meyrink is in her forties or so now -- she's contemporary with Peggy and myself, maybe a couple years older -- and according to IMDB
hasn't acted in a TV show or movie since 1988.

Is it just me, btw, or does Ricci's Trixie look like she has a little more attitude to her than the original?

Oh definitely, but then, we're comparing a 2008 version of the character to one from the late 60's.

- Star Ranger4 - 03-18-2008

She'd need to, otherwise people who arnt familiar with the source would complain about her being 2d....

On the topic of taking old shows and updating them for a feature film, there's an A-Team movie due out in the summer of 2009.

Hmmmmm... No cast list.

I wonder if they'll try to get Katee Sackhoff to play "Faceman"... 8)

You know, there's something both twisted and delightfully appropriate about that idea...
