If you have firefox, you want the video downloadhelper program. It's real easy to download flv's off of Youtube with it.

As for the flv format itself, VLC will play it no problem.

Yeah, DownloadHelper will do the trick -- and, it has a (still in beta) feature that will convert the FLVs to AVIs or MPGs, whichever you prefer (and have a
codec for).
Pretty easy to use.
