Evangelion: You Are (Not) Alone - Epsilon - 09-10-2009 Coming out this month in theatres across most of North America. If you have a local Cineplex they seem to pretty much all be showing it on Sept 30th. --------------- Epsilon Here's hoping it inspires new chapters of I Was A Teenage Dummyplug - Wiregeek - 09-10-2009 "No can brain today. Want cheezeburger." From NGE: Nobody Dies, by Gregg Landsman http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5579457/1/NGE_Nobody_Dies - ckosacranoid - 09-11-2009 what are they showing? something new for eva? - Epsilon - 09-12-2009 They're redoing EVA from scratch. The first movie You Are (Not) Alone covers approximately the same timeframe as the first six episodes. Completely new animation (apparently gorgeously done). The second movie You Can (Not) Advance is out in Japan now and apparently takes a significant turn in the orginal plotline (for example, it introduces a new pilot). ------------------ Epsilon - Matrix Dragon - 09-12-2009 What Eps said. It's essentially an Eva AU. From what I've heard, it was half "let's do this without running out of money halfway through", and half Anno getting over the really insane depression he's been suffering from for god only knows how long, and using Eva to show how much he's changed. I've heard good things about it, from people that had issues with the originals second half and movie, so I'm curious to see how it does. - Epsilon - 10-01-2009 Just got back from the showing here in Ottawa (amusingly they were running it off a hard drive and it started again from the beginning right after the next eisode preview ;p). First off, it is very, very pretty. They really spared no expense in the animation budget for this one, very well done. The final battle sequence contained a little too much gratituious CGI for the sake of CGI but the way they changed how the drill worked and the SFX for all the Eva fights was very well done. So far they stuck pretty close to the original plot with some noteable scenes being deleted. Going to the theatre was worth it for the sound alone, however. The surround sound at the theatre was spectacular. I'm looking forward to the next release (which will probably be a year away at least) and hope they made enough money to justify doing this again next time, or maybe with different movies in the future. ---------------- Epsilon - Sweno - 10-01-2009 sadly it is not playing in my area -Terry ----- "so listen up boy, or pornography starring your mother will be the second worst thing to happen to you today" TF2: Spy - Norgarth - 10-02-2009 It has 1 listed showing in my area, 10am on saturday/tomorrow, a day when I've got a manditory overtime shift. -_- ___________________________ "I've always wanted to be somebody, but I should have been more specific." - George Carlin - Bob Schroeck - 10-02-2009 Grrr. Fandango doesn't show it at any theatre local to me. -- Bob --------- Then the horns kicked in... ...and my shoes began to squeak. - Black Aeronaut - 10-05-2009 *Rolls eyes* Of course. We're lucky to have such a release even appear in any American movie theaters at all. Seriously, the American movie industry is a very grudging beast when it comes to anime - only stuff localized by Disney and its subsidiary, Miramax, get any serious attention. |
