The man who was nominated for more Oscars than anyone else who never won one passed away on Saturday, at age 81.

A magnificent madman, by which I mean I can recall very few roles in which he wasn't ... er, at least a touch, um, "eccentric."  And did it splendidly, whether for tragedy, as in Murphy's War and Lawrence of Arabia, comedy, as in How to Steal a Million, or something in between, as in The Lion in Winter or The Stunt Man.

OMG The Stuntman. Wow. Hadn't even thought about that one in years.

You want to know how good he was at portraying the madness of his character in that film?

Well - the actor Steve Railsback - ostensibly playing the "lead" role opposite O'Toole's mad director - was most famous previously for portraying Charles Manson in Helter Skelter!

And arguably (though it was part of the role) O'Toole out-crazied HIM in certain respects.

Those are movies, damn you! Look at me! I'm flesh and blood, life-size,

Mr. O'Toole; and you were.

In addition to Peter O'Toole (a great loss, I will agree), http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/a ... ion-665831]Joan Fontaine and http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/peop ... s/4033965/]Tom Laughlin also passed away this weekend.
