Total War Rome II
Edit: Oh yeah, it did state at the back of the package you need a steam account to activate it. Why it was not there in the instructions, I have no idea.

First off, Rome II?  There's your first problem... though I hear they've fixed a lot.
Second, buying physical PC games, unless they come with sufficiently awesome feelies, is a bit of a misstep these days.  You're going to have an account with *somebody*- Steam, Origin, or the like- to deal with.
Third, I have Rome II on Steam.  The install/startup process went smoothly from Day 1... though, sadly, the game turned out to not be worth the money at the time.  Here's hoping that it's worth playing, next time I have the time to sit down and check.

The good news is they've done so updates (which is why they now called it the Emperor edition) that is looks pretty good now. I finally launched it and it works. Now I get to play for this weekend.

I know I had an annoying problem when I installed Portal II. Apparently the game would not work with the most recent update to my graphics driver. I had to roll it back to the default before I could play the game. Now I avoid ever updating my graphics driver just in case it prevents me from playing Portal II again.
