New "Sailor Moon"-Inspired J-Pop Group Premieres

"SG5" ("Sailor Guardians 5") is their name, and they're deliberately modeling themselves on the Inner Senshi, judging from the deliberately obscured image with that Rolling Stone article. They also have Naoko Takeuchi's blessing (but you know, given how she's okay even with extreme Sailor Moon lemon fics, that probably wasn't hard to get).

The group will make their first official appearance next week at Los Angeles' Anime Expo, at which point we'll actually get to see what they look (and sound) like.

It reminds me of the time a reporter was interviewing Don McLean. He asked him about the song 'American Pie', "But what does it mean?"

So, I happened to be bouncing around old threads this afternoon, hit this one, and said to myself, "I haven't heard anything about this group since I posted that. Whatever happened with them?"

Well. Turns out they're still around, but they dropped the Sailor Moon theming and renamed themselves F5ve just a couple years ago. They seem to be doing okay for themselves.

They could have kept the SG5 name and instead became a Stargate themed band.
